Kashi Southwest Style Chicken
As a busy working girl with a social life to boot, I am always on the lookout for quick meals that are nutritionally sound. Although I usually shy away from frozen meals due to the high sodium count (plus the fact that they never seem to quite fill me up), I do indulge sometimes, because they are so handy and some of them can be a part of a nutritious meal (didn't I just sound like one of those diet commerials)?! I scanned the selection offered at my supermarket, and settled in on Kashi Southwest Style Chicken to try.

I stuck it in the microwave, added a few cups of broccoli to pump up the volume, and dug in. The verdict? Way to go, Kashi! Quite honestly, if I hadn't been told that this was a frozen dinner, I might not even have noticed. The chicken, black beans, pepper and corn blended beautifully with the Kashi pilaf, giving it a nice combination of a nutty, southwestern kick. With the addition of my extra broccoli, the dish was filling, tasty, and not too salty. Definitely a repeat meal
.
Each Kashi Southwest Style Chicken meal provides 240 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), no saturated fat, 28% of the RDA of sodium, 16 grams of protein and 23 grams of carbohydrates, including 6 grams fiber (24% of the DV) and 3 grams of sugars. Plus there is 40% of the RDA for vitamin C.
I bought this meal on sale for $2.50 at my local grocery store (normally retails for $3.99 - and Kashi doesn't go on sale often). Although the regular price is a bit of a splurge, considering the fact that it was filling and delicious, I would opt for this as a quick lunch in a heartbeat. Even the experts at HeatEatReview agree.

This is definitely my favorite frozen Kashi meal. I've only tried a few - but I cannot help but buy this when I need a fast lunch!
I love Kashi Frozen meals. I remember having this one. I added tons of veggies in it and stuffed it into a la tortilla wrap. Delicious!
