Hellmann's Dijonnaise Mustard

Hellmanns Dijonnaise MustardHellmann's Dijonnaise Mustard, is mustard blended with mayonnaise - with the low calories of mustard, just 5 calories per teaspoon. I bought a squeeze bottle at the grocery store, eager to try it on my next turkey, lettuce, and tomato sandwich.

On the surface, this didn't look too much different than regular mayo; maybe it was a little less strongly mustard colored, but overall it's appearance was more in common with mustard. And to tell you the truth, it also didn't taste too different from regular mustard, either. It was a tiny bit creamier, perhaps, but I unfortunately I didn't detect much of the distinctive flavor I associate with mayo and so desperately wanted to taste in this spread as well.

Each teaspoon of Hellmann's Dijonnaise Mustard provides 5 calories, no fat, 70 mg of sodium (3% of the RDA), no fiber, sugar, or protein, and no vitamins or minerals. Pretty unspectacular, but in this case, that's a good thing. The ingredients are water, vinegar, mustard seed, soybean oil, modified corn starch, salt, sugar, egg whites, xanthan gum, color added, natural flavor, spice (sodium benzoate, calcium disodium EDTA) used to protect quality, paprika, white wine, citric acid, yellow 5, tartaric acid, paprika, oleoresin, and turmeric. Way more ingredients than regular mustard to provide a similar taste.

I picked up a 10.75-ounce package for $3.99, and that price seems a bit high to me, given the underwhelming taste (and increased price over regular mustard). I will probably not be buying this again and I'm disappointed because I had such high hopes.

Let me also add that both Grey Poupon and French's Dijon have a much more authentic flavor and bite than this.

I prefer Grey Poupon too.

I live in Lancaster, Ohio and I can't find Dijonnaise in the stores anymore.
