Healthy Ones Oven Roasted Turkey Breast

I don't make too many sandwiches, but since I had a coupon for a FREE package of Healthy Ones Deli Meats, I had to try them out. The coupon entitled me to up to $3.99 worth of sliced deli products, so I marched right up to that section to make my selection. I vacillated between the turkey and the chicken (I don't really like ham), and finally settled on the Healthy Ones Deli Thin-Sliced Oven Roasted Turkey Breast.

Healthy Ones Oven Roasted Turkey Breast

I first examined the package to check out the turkey's health claims. I saw 97% fat free, no fillers, and zero artificial flavors, plus, the brand carries the American Heart Association seal of approval for saturated fat and cholesterol levels. Sounds good to me! I flipped over the package to look at the nutritional stats, and saw that a 4-slice serving (2/5th of the package) provides a wee 60 calories. That also comes with 1.5 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of saturated fat, 25 mg of cholesterol (8% of the RDA), 440 mg of sodium (18% of the RDA), and 10 grams of protein. That's a little high in the sodium department, but this is deli meat, after all.

As for taste, this turkey is great. The pieces are thick and meaty, and they taste really fresh. Like any deli meat, it's on the saltier side (witness the sodium content), but makes for a tasty sandwich. I actually wound up eating most of the turkey plain, too! If you need sandwich ideas (and other recipes), check out the Healthy Ones website. What are some of your favorite sandwich ingredients? (From Tanya: Ketchup is a MUST for me, seconded by lettuce & bell peppers).

The ingredients in Healthy Ones Oven Roasted Turkey Breast are as follows: turkey breast, water, and 2% or less of sugar, salt, natural flavoring, sodium phosphate, sodium diacetate, sodium nitrate, potassium lactate, sodium erythorbate, and caramel color. Those last few ingredients are on the unpronounceable end of the spectrum, but I imagine they're there as preservatives.

The price of this stuff is pretty good, and the taste is great, so I would definitely buy this again. Seems Mark over at Hangry Pants agrees too.

I ate this stuff - Turkey and Ham - all week for 2 weeks. Sandwiches, straight out of the package, pan friend for egg breakfast sandwiches, with cheese, without cheese. You name it. It tastes good and according to the FDA it's healthy for me.
