Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Sweet & Spicy Orange Zest Chicken
Amidst all the green Healthy Choice boxes of frozen foods are the new orange-bordered "Asian Inspired" Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers. So many to choose from, so I randomly decided to try the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Sweet & Spicy Orange Zest Chicken.
The plump, delicious sugar snap peas were the main veggie of the dish, but the entree was also dotted with scallions and red peppers that didn't really add to the taste but did add color to the meal. The pieces of chicken were fine, but I felt the rice was a little dry. The orange sauce, which is based off orange marmalade, is more sweet than salty, but really tied the meal together.
Each Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Sweet & Spicy Orange Zest Chicken meal provides 290 calories and 4 grams of fat (6% of the daily value), including 1 gram of saturated fat (5% of the DV), 30 milligrams of cholesterol (10% of the DV) and 480 milligrams of sodium (20% DV). There is also 17 grams of protein and 46 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of which are dietary fiber and 16 grams of sugar.
This meal normally sells for $3.00 at Kroger. The sugar snap peas were the best part of the meal; the rest of it was just okay. This entree is pretty low in sodium for a frozen food, but overall, it's nutritionally sound. Plus, the orange theme goes beyond the sauce and the outside of the box; the inside part of the cardboard is orange as well! Yes, they get bonus points for that.
