Naked Juice Strawberry Kiwi Kick
Picking through the selection of smoothies in the refrigerator case of a convenience store is always a challenge. Despite the fact that most of these smoothies are "all natural" and "100% juice," they're often so high calorie that I steer clear. However, when I have a craving for a smoothie, I look for the lowest calorie one I can find (ideally under 300 calories per bottle). In this case, that was Naked Juice Strawberry Kiwi Kick Energy Smoothie, priced at $3.99 at the airport kiosk where I picked it up.
Like most refrigerator case smoothies, the drink is just slightly thicker than a juice, but not as thick as a real smoothie that you'd blend yourself. The taste was super sweet but also a bit tangy - I found it to be a nice and refreshing combination. On the Naked Juice website, it lists all the fruit inside a bottle, "14 strawberries, 1/2 Kiwi, almost 3 apples and a hint of banana."
One bottle of Naked Juice Strawberry Kiwi Kick is 15.2 fluid ounces, which is 2 servings. Therefore, when looking at the nutrition facts, you need to double everything. One serving provides 110 calories and no fat or cholesterol. There are 10 mg sodium, 390 mg potassium (11% of your RDA), 27 grams of carbohydrates which includes 23 grams of sugar (yikes, but a look at the ingredient list reveals that it's just the naturally occurring sugar found in the fruit). While there is only 1 gram of protein, a serving does provide 100% of your daily Vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and pantothenic acid.
The amount of calories and sugar is one reason why dieters need to choose wisely and not "drink their calories." After all, you could have had the Lean Cuisine Lemongrass Chicken for just about the same amount of calories as 1 bottle of Naked Juice Strawberry Kiwi Kick. But, if you're being good (foodwise) and you're looking for a refreshing on the go snack, then this will do the trick instead of cookies, cake or ice cream.
