Doctor's CarbRite Diet Lemon Meringue Bar

One of my most recent "foodie" discoveries is Doctor's CarbRite Diet Bars, and let me tell you, I'm so glad I have! These bars are sugar free (sweetened with sugar alcohols and no artificial sweeteners), but before you dismiss it - let me tell you, they are GOOD! I've had many of the flavors, but one I think I missed was the Lemon Meringue, which I spotted in the supermarket. Of course, curiosity got the better of me and I picked one up for $1.79.
I unwrapped the bar and took a bite as soon as I got home. This flavor, like the others I've tried, is delicious! The lemon is surprisingly natural-tasting, and the bar just melts in your mouth. Doctor's Carb Rite got it right in their description, in which they say:
Remember Grandma's lemon meringue pie? The zesty lemon filling topped with that sweet fluffy meringue browned around the edges just so? The pie melted in your mouth, overwhelming your taste buds with that sweet yet tangy flavor. Well our Doctor's CarbRite Diet Lemon Meringue bar brings back this old time classic-without the carbs, sugar or guilt. This high protein tasty treat is sure to be enjoyed by dieters everywhere.

Tangy flavor? Check. Nutrition? Double check. Doctor's CarbRite Diet Lemon Meringue Bar weighs in at a full 57 grams and clocks in at 190 calories, 4 grams of total fat (6% of the daily value), 1.5 grams of which is saturated (8% of the DV), 6% of the DV for sodium (140 mg), 20 grams of protein and 23 grams of carbohydrates which includes 3 grams of fiber (12% of the DV), plus 30% of the RDA for calcium, and 10% for iron.
One word of warning - this bar, like other Doctors' products, has 19 grams of sugar alcohols. For some reason, though, these bars don't bother my stomach - but be on the look out as people have varying degrees of sensitivity to this ingredient . Overall, though, all I can say is yum, yum, yum

What does it feel like when your stomach is doesn't agree with sugar alcohol? I don't know if I'm sensitive or not.

@Peggy - usually diarrhea, cramping or bloating (or all of the above). And, it's usually from eating more than you can tolerate and only certain ones have that effect.
Oh My! I should have found this before eating those 2 pieces of REAL lemon meringue pie this past weekend! What are sugar alcohols? I'm too lazy to Google it right now.
Sugar alcohols are a type of carbohydrate (sugar is a carbohydrate too), but it differs slightly in structure. There are a few of them - xylitol for example is commonly used in sugar free gum - and it gives it that cooling sensation (like peppermint). They are used because they contribute 2-3 calories per gram (compared to 4 from sugar), they are natural. There's more info at Wiki
