Thomas' Light Whole Grain English Muffins

Thomas Light Whole Grain English MuffinsCarbohydrates have and always will be a part of my life. That said, I am always looking for a viable option to create a healthier sandwich, or pizza, or any type of creative meal that features a form of bread! Although I usually stick to the standard issue whole wheat bread, sometimes it is fun to branch out with other options. Whether it be a breakfast Mc-muffin, lunch sandwich, or dinner "pizza", Thomas Light Whole Grain English Muffins fit the bill perfectly!

They are soft, nutty, and chewy at the same time, making the perfect heat and eat treat with some jam, or a more hearty fare. I have experimented with these muffins for breakfast, toasting them with a bit of cooked egg whites and cheese, for lunch smeared with hummus and veggies, and for dinner, which is my personal favorite - topping each muffin half with a bit of sauce, some low fat mozzarella cheese, and veggie topping, and you have the ultimate comfort food, pizza, with a nutritional punch and many less calories!

Each 57 gram Thomas Light Whole Grain English Muffin provides 100 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat (2% of the daily value), no saturated fat, 170 mg of sodium (7% of the DV), 6 grams of protein and 24 grams of carbohydrates which includes 32% of the DV for fiber and less than 1 gram of sugars. The ample fiber is the trick in these little gems; they kept me full for hours, regardless of the toppings I chose to add!

The ingredients list is quite lengthy, starting with unbleached enriched Wheat Flour (so it's not whole grain) and I was a bit surprised to see sucralose (Splenda) in it. I purchased a 6-pack of muffins for $3.49, roughly the price of a good (slightly expensive) loaf of multi-grain bread. Although I do not use them with the frequency of my beloved whole wheat, they freeze beautifully, making them an excellent and long lasting buy!

An interesting note is that Thomas Bagels is owned by George Weston Bakeries, the same folks that make Arnold Bread and Sandwich Thins, another Iateapie.net favorite!

I eat these all the time. In fact, I had one toasted this morning with chocolate peanut butter and sliced banana on top. I love these!! They are one of the items that I always have on hand!

They make a pretty good bun for a boca burger too! Thanks for the review.

Why are 'less calories' equated with 'healthier'? The goal of healthy food ought not to be how to fill up with the least caloric cost possible, but to actually eat healthy food.

Orowheat offers several varieties of Englsih muffins made with 100% whole grains, including Wheat&Flax and Double Fiber. They're each 100-130 calories, and are a bit larger than these muffins.

I like these, but prefer the whole wheat. It's really only a 30 calorie difference (as already pointed out)

I like these as well. You can buy them at Sam's club (2 for around $5 I think). My hubby loves eating these with his cereal in the morning. I have made tuna melts with these before and mini pizzas

Have you tried the double fiber honey wheat english muffins? They are so good! Those are my favorite.

I have to try some of these English muffin varieties. Looks like the kids will be having english muffins for breakfast next week
