Odwalla Super Protein Bar
While driving to work, I got stuck in horrible traffic, and realized I wouldn't have time to get breakfast in the company cafeteria before my first meeting. I reached for a bar in my bag and came up with the Odwalla Super Protein Bar.
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the package as it looked more like a crumbly cookie instead of a smooth bar. I took a bite, and discovered that it tasted just like it looked. I would compare it to a very dense Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. It was a fairly pleasing flavor, however, the big thing to note is how DRY this bar is! I wasn't thirsty at all before I had it, but after one bite, I was parched, and had no water to wash it down. When I got to the office, I sucked down 1/2 bottle of water within five minutes of arriving, and still didn't really feel my thirst had been quenched. Definitely don't eat this without water handy!
The positive about this is the nutrition information. Each hefty 62 gram Odwalla Super Protein Bar provides 230 calories and 4.5 grams of fat which is 7% of the RDA, 1.5 grams of saturated fat (6% of the RDA). There is no cholesterol, 4 grams of fiber (17% of the RDA), 16 grams of sugar and 16 grams of soy protein - there's a boost!
This bar is vegan/vegetarian, so it's a great way to add protein to your diet if you don't eat meat. However, the bar has 16 grams of sugar, and is a little sweeter than I'd like but I would really compare it to eating a healthier (but still not completely healthy) version of an oatmeal raisin cookie.
I paid $1.99 for this bar, which is pretty cheap (please note that I'm in NYC, so bars are typically $2 - $4 each). If you want a real bargain, Amazon.com has a special running right now where you would get 24 bars for $27.12 - that's dirt cheap in my book..
This bar was previously reviewed by Liz who loved it, but my biggest disappointment about this was that I was surprised by the texture. I was expecting more of a smooth feel like a Larabar or a Kardea Bar. Instead, I found what was essentially a square cookie. I think if Odwalla made this into a round shape and sold it as a nutritional cookie, I'd enjoy it a bit more. But for the nutritionals and price, you can't get hurt!

Oh my, I DEFINITELY reviewed that bar waaaaaay back, haha - so I don't like it as much as I did. In fact, I don't like it at ALL now. Pure bars and Larabars reign supreme now for me!! :-)
I really like Odwalla Bars. They're my second fav after Lara Bars. =)
