Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Fruit and Nut Bar

Trader Joes Chocolate Chip Fruit and Nut Bar

I usually keep Larabars in my bag for times when I'm hungry but can't get anything healthy. I like to buy them at Trader Joe's where they're a little less pricey than elsewhere but yesterday when I went to stock up, I looked on the shelf below the Larabars and noticed a Trader Joe's knockoff version. At first I hesitated to stray from my favorite, but they were half the price, so I figured they were worth a try. I picked up the Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Fruit & Nut Bar for only $0.69.

I was really surprised when I opened the packaging to find the bar was a dark brown color - I was expecting more of a fruit and nut bar with a few chocolate chips in it. Keeping with this theme, my reaction to the first bite was, "Oh my goodness, it's so chocolate-y!" Seriously, biting into this bar is like biting into a brownie - you'll be shocked to learn that there are fruit and nuts and other healthy things in here. This is by far one of the most chocolate-y bars I've ever had, which is not a bad thing. The texture is very cake-y and brownie-like too, which surprised me because flour isn't one of the ingredients. There are rolled oats, but the texture of the bar is fairly smooth except for the chunks of nut in it.

Each 45 gram bar of Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Fruit & Nut Bar has 170 calories and 21 grams of sugar. There are 4.5 grams of fat (surprisingly 2 grams less than their similar bar that's just fruit and nuts without the chocolate chips), 3 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber. Pretty healthy! Compared to the Jocalat Larabar that I think it's trying to knockoff, it has 20 fewer calories, 5 fewer grams of fat, 3 more grams of sugar, and 2 fewer grams of proetin. That's pretty comparable.

Doing a price comparison, while Trader Joe's only charges $1.50 for the Larabars (compared to the $2.00 at most stores), these are sold for even less - just $0.69 a bar! It's a huge savings, and I like the bars just as much. I'll definitely be stocking up on these the next time I go to Trader Joe's.

Looks more like a knock off of the Nectar bar from Clif

That it does. Though I like those too, so works for me!

I like this bar and found it less dry than a larabar. Definitely great chocollate chunks in there and cannot beat the price!

I agree! Loved this bar! But my favorite is still Larabar's Coconut Chew.

Thank you for the review--you were right for a healthy bar it tasted so delieiously good!

Boo hoo! I just went to TJ's and there were none of these. They are discontinuing them!!! A clerk said they were giving them awaya at the end. If I had known, I would have bought a barrel of them.
