Swiss Miss No Sugar Added Hot Chocolate

Swiss Miss No Sugar Added HotChocolateThe folks over at Swiss Miss have managed to concoct enough varieties of cocoa to fill a pocket dictionary. Flavors from Dark Chocolate to Chocolate Caramel, offerings of added caffeine or vitamins, and three different reduced-calorie varieties. While the Swiss Miss Diet Hot Cocoa (which we reviewed) offered the fewest calories, it also came with the highest price tag, and could only be bought in packets. The Swiss Miss No Sugar Added Hot Chocolate was about half the cost of the Diet version and could be bought in a canister. Wanting to be both more eco- and wallet friendly, I opted to try this version instead.

As per instructions, I dumped two tablespoons of powder into my 8-ounce mug and added boiling water. I gave it a vigorous stir - like most cocoas, it doesn't mix up easily. The result was a creamy cup of rich chocolate goodness, complete with that foam on top. Yum! I was amazed at how close to the regular version this cocoa is - there's no off flavors, no aftertaste, and no watery texture. It's all that I expect from a cup of cocoa, and is a completely satisfying winter treat.

One serving of Swiss Miss No Sugar Added Hot Chocolate is 1/4 cup, which actually makes 12-16 ounces of cocoa contains 75 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, 10 grams of carbohydrates which includes 7 grams of sugar, plus an added 30% of the daily recommendations for calcium. The 8 ounce cup I had clocked in only 37.5 calories. Nice!

The 14 ounce canister (which contains 20 servings) costs $2.99. While not as virtuous in calories as the diet version, having a huge, creamy, decadent 16 ounce mug of cocoa for well under 100 calories is still a good bargain - both for the rich taste and for your budget.

I'll warn you, as delectable as this is... and it is... it does make my tummy hurt a little, and I always add less water than they require because I find it can get a bit watery. But hey, in a pinch? It's... perfection.

So... what kind of sweetener is used in this? Just the natural cocoa, or is there some artificial stuff?
