South Beach Living Crispy Meal Replacement Bars
Recently, I reviewed Kraft's South Beach Living Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispy Meal Bar. I was rather delighted with this flavor, so I decided I needed MORE! I wanted to give the other flavors a whirl. So I tried them ALL (the things we do for the sake of a good review).
Chocolate. This bar was very good. No chemical chocolate taste here! The crisp part had a nice strong, but not overwhelming chocolate flavor and the bottom was coated in a chocolate layer that was Divine! This is great for satisfying a sweet tooth.
Chocolate Peanut Butter. This was previously reviewed and I loved it. The texture was crispy, yet not rock hard, the bottom was coated with a chocolate layer that actually tastes like real chocolate and the peanut butter flavor packed a real punch.
Caramel Peanut. I am normally geared towards anything chocolate, and with no chocolate in sight on this bar, I thought it would be sub-par. I didn't think I would like it but tried it anyway and I am so glad I did. It is my favorite! The crispy top layer was the same as the Chocolate Peanut Butter bar but the bottom was coated in a caramel layer instead of chocolate. SO yummy!
Cinnamon Creme. This one was good and a welcomed different flavor from the previous three. The crispy part had a nice cinnamon flavor that was rather sweet. The bottom was coated in a sweet creme 'icing' which reminded me of a crispy cinnamon bun - minus the guilt!
Vanilla Creme. This was my least favorite out of all the bars I tried. The crispy flavor had a subtle sweet vanilla flavor and the bottom had the same 'creme' as the cinnamon bar. This bar was good, but I tend to be drawn to more stronger flavors like peanut butter and chocolate. I am not the biggest vanilla fan.
The average South Beach Living Meal Replacement Bars is 60 grams and provides 210 calories and 19 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar (these bars use sugar alcohols, but not artificial sweeteners). All the flavors are pretty similar as far a nutrition goes. The Chocolate Crisp has less fat (6 grams compared to 7), the Caramel Peanut has less fiber (5 grams compared to 6) and the Cinnamon Creme has more calories (220 calories compared to 210).
These South Beach bars are high protein, low fat and sugar and high fiber. They have excellent taste and I'm now a big fan.

Try the new Fiber Fit bars in S'mores. They are to die for!!
I love these South Beach Bars too. But I am really angry at kraft. They have changed the bars by reducing the protien from 19 down to 12. Way to rip us off kraft. We get less for our money in this economy. I am looking for a new protien bar!!
They've discontinued the Cinnamon Creme flavor (perhaps Vanilla too?), which is very disappointing as it is by far my #1 meal bar of choice. It is SOOO hard to find a non-chocolate, non-PB mealbar that tastes good!
These bars are high in sugar alcohols, 18 grams, which is equivalent to about 9 grams of sugar. They frequently cause significant GI reactions - diarrhea, cramping, and gas.
Well, they even reduced the sugar alcohol count, which accounted for a lower carb count (about 3) from 18 to 10. This means the net carbs for this bar which used to be 3 is now ELEVEN!
I was able track down some of the older (19gram of protein / lower net carb) bars on ebay. You may have some luck with this, too.
The newer bars just have too many net carbs and not enough protien for me to eat. The Cinnamon Creme was my FAVORITE, and I did not have any unpleasant reactions to the sugar alchohol in this particular bar.I was worried that they had been discontinued when the local Walmart had written "DELETE" on the shelf bar code. A Pity.
I have been enjoying the bars but not running to the bathroom frequently or the terrible explosive painful gas I got from it.
