Simply Fiber Cinnamon Cereal
I recently came upon a cereal I hadn't encountered before, called Simply Fiber. The description of the Cinnamon variety read, "Crunchy Bran O's with tasty whole wheat and corn with NO SUGAR or SODIUM." I was really caught up in the moment while reading the cereal box - thinking that I might have in my hands, the Holy Grail - a high fiber cereal with no sugar, sodium, fat and a TON of taste. You say I must have been daydreaming, but I'm telling you, I held this box in my hands and for a moment I believed.
When I took the cereal home and opened up the package, my first thought was, "Wow, this looks like hamster food." Hoping it would taste better than what I imagined hamster chow tastes like, I poured myself a bowl to munch on. I popped a few "crunchy bran O's" into my mouth, and tasted ... cardboard. Not even cardboard with cinnamon flavoring - just plain cardboard. I was devastated - I had such high hopes. As I pondered whether I should suffer through a few more bites, I I turned over the box to examine the ingredients. Well, it's good to know that any product that has ONLY "wheat bran, whole grain corn flour, whole grain wheat flour, corn bran, and cinnamon", tastes like ... well, cardboard.
The nutritional stats, of course, are wonderful. Each 3/4 cup serving has 100 calories, 1 gram of fat, 14 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein. However, you only get those benefits if you manage to choke down an entire serving!
I tried adding some 8th Continent Light Vanilla Soymilk to see if the taste improved at all. It didn't. I ended up throwing the rest of the box away. It cost $3.39 which was basically a waste of money. The excellent nutrition cannot make up for the taste.

hahaha I couldn't wait to read what you wrote for this. I tried the original "flavor" over Christmas, and it was awful! Not even milk or a packet of sweetener helped it out. I gave it to my sister. lol
Ugh, hate when that happens! Thanks for the review!
Oi, guess I'll stick to my cheerios.
i too tried this and had the same reaction. i too laughed when i saw you tried this. i am glad it is not just me that felt this way...sorry but funny for those of us who tried it.
Bummer.... I'd be upset if I spent that much on a cereal that was this bad.
