Organic Valley Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk
Organic Valley dug themselves into a big hole in my eyes with their overly sweet concoction dubbed Organic Valley Vanilla Lowfat Milk. However, I must say that they redeemed themselves with their Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk.
One sip and you will be in chocolate heaven. The flavor is alarmingly similar to a melted fudgsicle ... so much so that I think it IS a bunch of melted fudgsicles
. Seriously, if you try this for no other reason than to test my "fudgsicle theory" it will be worth it!
The ingredient list is organic (of course) and short (just the way I like it). The only wholesome ingredients that make their way into this chocolaty treat are Grade A Reduced Fat Milk, Unrefined Cane Sugar, Dutch Cocoa, Salt, Carrageenan and Vitamins A & D. Each 8 ounce cup of Organic Valley Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk has 170 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the RDA) including 3 grams of saturated fat (14% of the RDA), 20 mg of cholesterol (6% of the RDA), 250 mg of sodium (11% of the RDA), 23 grams of sugar and 8 grams of protein. Each cup of nutrient rich milk also provides 10% of the RDA for Vitamin C, 30% for Calcium, 4% for Iron and 25% for Vitamin D.
There is quite a bit of fat and sugar, but it is a little less than Horizon Organic Chocolate Reduced Fat Milk - although it's all natural, I just can't see why they have to add so much sugar. I guess you have to pick between your diet and natural products with this one.
Organic Valley also offers single serving, shelf-stable containers of low fat 1% milk, which is very tasty (but not quite as close to a fudgsicle). But luckily, there are other lower fat (and sugar) ways to get a chocolatey treat - I'm talking about Healthy Choice Chocolate Fudge Bars, which have only 1 gram of fat and 2 grams of sugar).
I paid $3.00 for a 4-cup carton of Organic Valley Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk. Coupons are usually available at the Organic Valley website.
