Green Giant Valley Fresh Broccoli and Cheese Sauce Steamers

Organic Valley Reduced Fat Chocolate MilkConfession time: I don't eat enough vegetables! There now you know my secret. Everyday it's a struggle, but I really do try. I love salad, but when it comes to cooked vegetables, I just don't like the taste. I like the steam in the bag idea, and since most vegetables are flash frozen quite soon after harvesting, the nutritional profile is not too far from the fresh stuff. I decided to give Green Giant 100% Natural Valley Fresh Broccoli and Cheese Sauce Steamers a try.

I followed the directions and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes. The broccoli came out like crunchy hard chunks. It was delicious with the cheese sauce, which although it provides extra calories, also made it quite tasty. Thankfully it wasn't too goopy and there wasn't too much of it. I shared it with 2 kids, and while they didn't eat all their portion, they didn't complain about the taste either. I can't speak for all kids - oooh, they can be so picky - but this was well received by the ones I gave it to. From an adult's perspective - 2 thumbs up!

Each 1/2 cup (cooked) serving of Green Giant Valley Fresh Broccoli and Cheese Sauce provides only 45 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat which is 2% of the recommended daily amount, no saturated or trans fat, 16% of the RDA for sodium (380 mg), 2 grams of protein and 7 grams of total carbihydrates which includes 3 grams of sugar and 8% of the RDA for fober (2 grams).

I bought a 12 ounce bag, which has 3 servings for a very reasonable $1.50. I had actually picked up a small bundle of asparagus before this, but it cost $3.58 and this was just so much more economical.

As a true vegetable "devotee" and fan of the "steam in a bag" phenomenon, I strongly recommend Birds Eye Steamfresh's version on of Garlic Cauliflower. Personally, I do not prefer the taste of raw or cooked caulifower, however upon tasting this variety, I was instantly hooked. In fact, my family and I love its taste so much that we buy several bags each on each visit to the grocery store. It is the perfect complement to a sensible dinner, or even as a healthy snack between meals. You are in for a real tasty, yet healthy treat!

Thanks Melissa - I'm not a big vegetable eater and definitely stayed away from the cauliflower one because of this. I'll give it a go now that you recommended it.

I actually mix these guys with some whole wheat pasta and it's a super fast, tasty, and healthy meal.

I am eating this now and I am not a huge fan. It is mostly broccoli stumps and it tastes under seasoned.

I just ate a bag of this. I'm usually a foodie "snob" and avoid things like Velveeta, but this hit the spot! Real cheese taste, fresh tasting broccoli, and super easy. Cook for 6 min for tender, well-cooked broccoli.

I have just discovered these today having seen the commercial for the first time. I'm off to the grocery store to purchase a few bags, I'm trying to eat more healthy and I sure these will help.
