7Up: Diet Cherry 7Up Antioxidant

dietcherry7upAhh 7Up, I like you - I really do. Well, actually I like the regular version a lot - and on the occasions that I do reach for a soda, I have been known to choose you because your crisp taste and non-caffeinated ways have always been a delight to me. But, I read with mixed emotions when it came to seeing the new Diet Cherry 7Up Antioxidant. Of course I was intrigued to try you - being new and pink ... I knew I wouldn't be able to resist, but frankly, I was a little turned off by the marketing use of the term "Antioxidant" in the name of a soda. Drinking soda to enhance your health?! There is 10% of the daily recommendations of vitamin E in this soda, but this is definitely not the place I would look to in order to fulfill my daily vitamin requirements.

So let's talk about the taste. The cherry flavor was definitely front and center, and as usually, my nose was tickled by those little carbonated bubbles. I was pleased, but not in love. The "sweetness" was a little off. It wasn't a full bodied sweetness, like with regular sodas, instead I kind of felt it on the back of my tongue (so hard for me to describe). It's like it was sweet, but not in the way that sweet things usually taste. You were ... aaight dear Diet Cherry 7Up Antioxidant, but not really a stand out.

As with most diet sodas, this has no calories, fat or sugar. It uses the sweeteners aspartame and acesulfame K, the dye Red 40 and there is 10% of daily recommendations for vitamin E in each 8 ounce serving, hence the use of the word "Antioxidant" in the name.

I reviewed the Cherry 7UP Plus and did not care for it, but the Cherry 7Up Antioxidant tastes better. Still, I don't think this is one of the top flavored sodas out there, and definitely not where you should be looking to supplement your vitamin intake. Here are a few natural sources of vitamin E: sunflower seeds (90% of the RDA), dry roasted almonds (45%), olives (20%) and papaya (15%) - Source: WHFoods.

Hey, if it's a diet cherry drink that doesn't taste like cough syrup, it's remarkable in that way!

Excellent point, Wolf! I've been curious about the pomegranate flavored one, but have yet to see it (unless I walked past, as I don't tend to browse the soda aisle.)

does anybody know the name of the song in the cherry 7-up antioxidant commercial??!

That's what I'm in search of - what is that infectious tune in the background? Can't get my iPhone to ID it, either.

what is the song called?!
