Coffee-mate Low Fat Original Creamer
Ever since I started my coffee habit - at the stunt-my-growth age of ten - I've never been a black coffee drinker. Some consider it a sacrilege, but I love my cream and sugar in a cup of joe. I've always bought a variety of different flavors of non-dairy creamers to keep it interesting, but lately, I've been wanting to find something a little more diet-friendly.
Coffee-mate offers Sugar-free and Fat-free varieties in several of their flavors, and their Original flavor comes in regular, Low fat, and Fat free editions. Having had fairly poor luck with fat free products thus far, I decided to give the Low fat Original Creamer a try (not to mention the fact that the Low fat and Fat-free creamers contain the same amount of calories anyway).
I measured out two tablespoons into my twelve ounce mug, along with a packet of Splenda, as again, the original is not sweet. One sip told me all I had hoped for - the creamer adds body and a creamy flavor, and erases that bitter edge that I personally find distasteful. Another added bonus is that since this is non-dairy, I could reheat it a bit when it got cold without worry of it curdling.
One tablespoon of Coffee-mate Lowfat Original Creamer contains a paltry 10 calories, 0.5 grams of total fat (which is half of the Original), 5 mg sodium, and not much else worth mentioning. Admittedly, the ingredients - water, corn syrup solids, and partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil, and a myriad of other "not so natural" ingredients - is rather unappealing. Still, a creamy and delicious full cup of coffee for 20 calories and 1 gram of fat is hard to beat.
One (32 ounce) container cost me $2.50, which is pretty cheap when you consider how many cups of coffee you'll get out of that amount.
