True North Pistachio Crisps

True North Pistachio CrispsMy local Wal-Mart has recently undergone a major renovation. In other words, they repainted the walls, slapped some new tile on the floor and moved everything around so I can no longer find anything! As I'm searching in vain for some soy chips, I stumbled across True North Pistachio Crisps. I like soy chips because they're crunchy like a potato chip, but generally contain fewer calories, are baked and contain significant amounts of protein and fiber. According to the True North bag, these crisps appear to share those same attributes and all with no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors. I scanned the ingredient list and found that, shockingly, pistachios are actually the first thing listed (I hate when you buy something and what should be the primary ingredient is way down the list meaning there is very little of that thing in the actual product).

I opened up the bag, which has one of those handy resealable ziplock features, and took out a crisp. They're an octogan-ish shape and crushed pistachios can be seen throughout. Now the taste test ... these are really, REALLY good. You can taste the pistachios and they have a nice crispness to them. The oil from the nuts keeps them for being too dry like a baked chip, but they're not greasy like a potato chip. After about the fifth or sixth chip I started to think maybe they're a tad over salted - but still, yummy. Oh, and as an aside, my kids, even the ultra picky toddler, liked these as well.

One serving of 12 True North Pistachio Crisps contains 140 calories, 7 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (11% and 4% of the recommended daily amount), 10% of the RDA for sodium (240 mg), 5 grams of protein and 15 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber and 4 grams of sugar. T

I paid $3.29 for a 4.5 ounce bag at Wal-Mart, which is pretty on par with what I would've paid for an equivalent amount of soy crisps, and I think the price was well worth it. A closer look at the packaging also revealed that True North is really just a tree hugger disguise for Frito Lay, but hey, kudos to them for creating a great healthy and tasty snack.

True North is heaven!! I have not found anything they make that I do not LOVE!! My local Wal Mart, however, is horrible about keeping it in stock. I go to Sam's Club (which is about an hour away) to purchase the larger bags of it.

had in out local costco(albuquerque nm) recently stopped carring them how can i order on line?

You can get them on Amazon.com - they carry several different varieties and sizes.

Regular price at my Rite Aid in TN is $2.99 a bag, cheaper than Walmart. These are so yummy!
