CherryPharm All Natural Cherry Juice
CherryPharm is an "all-natural 100% fruit juice based on the powerful health benefits found naturally in cherries." There is a very informative chart on CherryPharm's website which details the antioxidant compounds found in tart cherries, acai, blueberry, noni & pomegranates - and it turns out that cherries have a more inclusive profile than the others. Plus, there is another website page which shows that the antioxidant power of 50 whole tart cherries, and CherryPharm (juice), which surpasses that of pomegranate, grape & blueberry juices (with on ORAC value of 13,015). Impressive!
The most striking thing about this juice, besides the health claims, is the taste. They should have put TART in big bold letters on the label. Do not underestimate the word "Tart" as seen in "Tart Cherry Juice" on the packaging. It was not possible for me to drink the 8 ounce bottle in 1 gulp. You are either going to love or hate this bitter/ tart flavor. I kept saying I hate it - but I would find myself taking a swig every minute or so until the bottle was entirely done in just a few minutes. But it also happens that I like tartness (Sour Patch Kids are my favorite candy if that tells you anything).
Another interesting thing was the aroma of the juice. They must obviously want you to think of this as a supplement or pharmaceutical, because it has a kind of medicinal aroma to it. There are 3 varieties, Natural Fruit Juice, Health Juice & Recovery Juice (which has 8 grams of protein from added Whey), and they all taste the same to me.The medicinal aroma defintiely took some getting used to - at first I wanted to hold my nose to drink this.
The ingredients list for the CherryPharm Natural Fruit Juice is Whole Tart Cherries, Water, White Grape and Apple Juice Concentrate and for the CherryPharm Natural Health, it's Whole Tart Cherries, Water, Apple Juice Concentrate. Both provide 1 gram of protein, no fiber, 28 grams of sugar and 130 calories (140 calories for the Natural Health Juice). The 3rd variety is the CherryPharm Natural Recovery, which has 8 grams of protein (from added whey protein), 27 grams of sugar and 160 calories.
I was sent a sample of this, but I understand that an 8 ounce bottle retails for around $2.50. I wonder if liquid nutrition will ever be a big trend. There's Promise Active Supershots, CherryPharm and some liquid energy drinks, but I don't think it has taken off in a grandiose way. The price seems to be prohibitive. I could definitely see myself buying CherryPharm though and using it to supplement my morning energy smoothie/ shake. Will cherries take over pomegranate & acai in the future as the most popular superfruit?!

I can't stand this whole "super food" movement. Those antioxidant scores are only impressive in theory; they don't translate to any actual disease prevention or increase in your lifespan.
They constantly play up these super foods is being alternatives to modern medicines ,and label any opposition as cover ups by the "greedy pharmaceutical companies." When in reality you have these(just as greedy) companies making all sorts of false claims about their products with little to no science backing it up all while they charge you an additional fee for those "amazing health benefits."
Sorry for the rant ,but I wish I didn't have to pay extra because people have been convinced that x fruit or veggie is the key to dietary salvation.

It really doesn't sound that tasty, but I still kind of want to taste it. I'm sure I'd enjoy regular whole cherries more, but I'm still intrigured.
Hum, Ceral makes a valid point.
Thanks for this review. My husband has gout and cherry juice is a natural treatment. Usually they are oversweetened. We'll try this one.
I agree with the basic premise of Cereal, but natural healing and "super fruit" products are for daily regiment and following a healthy diet.
Regarding the gout and cherries, my husband had terrible gout and he has been drinking cherry juice and it has really helped.
But in October our doctor told us about tart cherries in a pill from Fruit Advantage. She said they are more concentrated with less sugar than the cherry juice.
He tried the cherry capsules and they are much more convenient then mixing the cherry juice.
i suggest reading the cherrypharm website-i was just there and they have actual scientific research to back up claims...unlike other companies who say they will save your life with a blueberry without having done real, certified studies
