Barbara's Snackimals Vanilla Animal Cookies

Barbaras Vanilla Snackimals Animal CookiesEver since I bit into my first animal cracker I fell in love (although I never understood why they were called crackers when they tasted like cookies). However, the majority of animal crackers contain some type of partially hydrogenated oil, which I am doing my best to avoid. Therefore, when I found Barbara's Snackimals Vanilla Animal Cookies, the child in me snatched them right up. Snackimals are made with the highest quality natural and organic ingredients and contain none of the artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or trans fats found in old-fashioned animal cookies.

First off, these are definitely cookies and not crackers. They are flatter than the average animal 'cracker' and therefore, crispier and less flaky. The taste is not over-the-top stellar, but does represent the wholesome ingredients that go into these crunchy little guys. To improve upon the taste I would prefer a slightly sweeter cookie and personally, I am not sure if I thoroughly enjoy the vanilla flavor which is more of a light aftertaste.

One complaint I have is that I bought what looks like a single serving sized bag that actually contains 2 servings (I hate when companies do that to us!). Nevertheless, half of the 60 gram bag of Barbara's Snackimals Vanilla Animal Cookies has 110 calories (so the whole bag would only set you back 220 calories), 4 grams of total fat (6% of the recommended daily amount), no saturated fat or cholesterol, 65 mg of sodium (3% of the RDA), no fiber (my second and last complaint), 5 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein. The short ingredient list contains organic wheat flour, unsulphured molasses, organic expeller pressed safflower or sunflower oil, natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, soy lecithin, baking soda and aluminum free baking powder. As you can see, these sweet treats are comprised of organic grains, no hydrogenated oils and 100% natural ingredients.

I paid $0.99 for a 2.125 oz bag (which is also available online). Barbara's Snackimals are also available in Chocolate Chip, SnickerDoodle and Wheat Free Oatmeal, and I think I would prefer to try the other flavors, before I commit to this one. I would buy these again sometime, but I would never go out of my way or over my budget in order to do so.

I generally give anything labeled a healthy cookie a miss. They are never good!

They do have some nice sounding flavors I've eyes before snickerdoodle and wheat-free oatmeal. Though I tend to stick with homemade, myself. I love making my own kinds

The wheat free oatmeal ones are really good.
