ThinkGreen Chocolate Chip Bar

thinkGreen Chocolate Chip Bar

On my way home from work, I passed a health food store and decided to stop in to see if they had any Larabars - I like to toss them in my bag as an "in case" meal or snack. Instead, I happened across thinkGreen. They are "a superfood nutrition bar for optimum vibrance. Every bar is packed full of beneficial nutritious ingredients including immune boosting broccoli and spirulina, antioxidant green tea and nutrient-packed chlorella and alfalfa. With over one tablespoon of powerful greens, thinkGreen is pure food that is high in fiber, gluten free, and free from trans fats and cholestorol."

With a description like that, I expected stellar nutrition facts - and in this case, they actually are. One bar of the thinkGreen Chocolate Chip Bar that I picked up has 180 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the RDA) including 1.5 grams of saturated fat (7% of the RDA), 55 milligrams of sodium (2% of the RDA), which was good for me since I got salty takeout for lunch, 7 grams of protein and 27 grams of carbohydrates which includes 4 grams of fiber and 17 grams of sugars - the only downside.

When I tasted the bar, it was slightly sweet, but definitely not as sweet as you would think 17 grams of sugar would be! I wish they could get the sugar level down - honey is listed as an ingredient, and it's too bad they can't go a bit lighter on that. Still, the bar is well-flavored: I could definitely taste the dates, but they weren't overpowering, and the honey actually makes the bar just the right level of sweetness (not too much, not too little). It's a very natural-tasting bar: if you're into that, you'll like it; if you want something more consistent and processed, you should look elsewhere.

On that note, although the bar doesn't look that appetizing (it's pretty chunky instead of smooth like a processed bar would be), the texture was good. The ingredient list is long, but it's all natural - things like organic dates, raisins, almonds, and a heavy dose of fruits and veggies: apples, alfalfa, berry juice, grape skin, broccoli, peas, carrots, alfalfa grass, spinach, peas. If you're someone who doesn't like to eat their veggies, this bar is a great way to sneak them into your diet in the form of a candy. Because even after all that good stuff, this is indeed a candy bar - the ingredient list includes semisweet chocolate, cocoa soy crisps, cocoa powder, and chocolate
liquor.

This is a very solid bar - it doesn't feel like it will fall apart, so it's a good one to toss in your bag for emergencies. I'll definitely be stocking up and also trying some of ThinkProducts' other flavors. Other Think bars, include ThinkThin (we've reviewed the ThinkThin Chunky Peanut Butter Bar and ThinkThin Chocolate Fudge High Protein Bar), thinkOrganic, thinkFruit and think5.

Interesting. I like that veggies and not just fruits are included!

WHAT a combination! LOL Admittedly that bar does look quite.. unappetizing. But I've eaten things that don't look so good before and have really enjoyed them. (everyone else at work is like EWWW and picks on my food choices) But I've tried the bars that contained veggies before, and I just don't like the taste. Thankfully I've been eating more fresh veggies lately, so I think I'll stick to that. :D

The only one I've tried is the thinkOrganic cranberry apple one, and it was a mess. It was like a poor rip-off of larabar.

Awwwe, I actually really liked the cranberry apple one! I'm not a huge fan of larabars, though, so maybe that's why.
