Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal
Ever since chain restaurants in New York were required to post nutritional information, I have found myself wondering about the stats at my everyday eateries. As a certified Starbucks-a-holic, I was especially curious about the data on those massive cookies and whipped cream-laden drinks. Thankfully, just as I go the shock of my life courtesy of Starbucks.com, they introduced new healthier options - and I was all over the Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal - yes they called it "perfect". So sure of themselves they were - so how could I not give it a try.
I must say that they deserve the bragging rights. I was very impressed with the warm, comforting cup of oatmeal offered with a selection of toppings, including a nut medley, dried fruits, and brown sugar, all for just $2.45. I chose the dried fruit - one of my favorite things to add to my own homemade oatmeal, and I must say that this was just as good.
The nutritional stats for the Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal are pretty impressive as well. For a mere 140 calories per 38 gram container, you get 4 grams of fiber (16% of the RDA), 5 grams of protein, 25% of the RDA for Vitamin A, 10% of the daily calcium recommendation, and 50% of recommended iron, with only 2.5 grams of total fat (0.5 grams of that being saturated fat) and 105 mg of sodium.
Oatmeal has been touted as have heart healthy benefits, and Starbucks did a good job at providing a nutritious, healthy, portable, warming treat, all for about the same price as a grande coffee. I'll take it to go!

I've tried this and love it, too! My best friend wasn't a huge fan, but I think she just got a bad one. :)
I think a good thing to add is that the dried fruit adds 100 calories, the nuts add 100 calories, and the brown sugar adds 50 calories.
This is off the top of my head, so I don't have the fat or protein count for those.
I work for Sbucks and really, "perfect" is going a bit far. As far as I can tell, it's regular instant oatmeal, and we add hot water to it.
It's great, IMO, that there is a "fast food option for oatmeal out there, though.
it really isn't that great. and, like julia said, 100 more cal for dried fruit. 240 calories and all that sugar is not healthy in my book!
ah so many ways to use starbucks .. !!
Thanks for adding about the fruit, nuts and sugar, guys! I should have mentioned that in my review. However, Jackie, these are not things you absolutely have to add in, so the oatmeal doesn't have to be 240 calories and sugar-laden - add a little squeeze of a honey pack or a sugar/Splenda packet for sweet flavor without all the extra calories!
I think it's super that Starbucks has healthy options now. It used to be that if you wanted something under 200 calories, you had to just take a bite of some pastry and throw the rest away. Now there's actual food to have to make a meal from. Yay, Starbucks.
Thanks for the info. Until I hit this site I was surfing all over to find out the calorie count for the oatmeal. And, from now on I am eating it plain! I agree that "perfect" is a marketing term!
okay, so i'm sitting in a starbucks drinking tea, so nothing against them...i just hate mushy squooshy oatmeal...i like a bit of texture...i like to be able to tell that the oats are oats.
the key is in the water/oat ratio...most folks just use too much water!
try this recipe at home and see if you don't agree...
