JamFrakas Organic Larabar
The lovely folks at Larabar sent me a surprise package yesterday which included the new JamFrakas Organic Larabars. Trying to decide between the 5 flavors they sent me was giving me a headache, so I decided to sample them all. I enlisted the help of my mom and little brother to put them to the test, but before calling them to the kitchen I opened up the Peanut Butter Blisscrisp and was so delighted with the flavor, I ate the whole thing! Sorry Mom.
Heading some restraint, I opened the other bars and cut them into pieces and here's what we have to report.
* Apple Crispalicious: It was my least favorite. Everyone thought that it lacked apple flavor.
* Strawberry Crispiscrumptious: This was a really nice, dense, chewy bar, and it was my moms favorite.
* Banana Chocolate Blastocrisp: This was my brother's favorite. My mom didn't care for it, but she hates anything banana. I thought it was okay., but maybe a tad dry.
* Chocolate Chip Cosmocrisp: Everyone enjoyed this bar and the flavor. I thought it was really yummy, but didn't have enough chocolate oomph to it. While it had a chocolate flavor, I don't think it would kill a chocolate craving.
* Peanut Butter Blisscrisp: Needless to say this bar was my favorite. It had a wonderful peanut butter flavor with the perfect texture.
I wanted to add that the JamFrakas bar are very tiny. I wouldn't turn to one if I was hungry and needed something to tide me over, but it does say on their website that these are "crispy chewy food bars for kids." It's definitely enough of a snack for kids, but for adults - a 28 gram bar is nothing more than a tease.
Each 28 gram JamFrakas Larabar has between 90-120 calories, 1-5 grams of fat (1& - 8% of the recommended daily amount), 0-8% of the RDA for saturated fat, 1-3 grams of protein and 17 - 29 grams of carbohydrates (1-2 grams of fiber with 10-15 grams of sugar). The nutrition facts for each bar can be found at Jamfrakas.com.
Jamfrakas bars are 100% organic, made from whole grains, with no trans fats or high fructose corn syrup. They are also Gluten, dairy, and soy free. Vegans who eat honey would be able to eat these bars. Although I didn't purchase these bars, I would in the future, especially the peanut butter and banana flavors. Larabars tend to cost around $1.00-$$1.50 per bar.. The ingredients are stellar and they are very nutritious. While they may be marketed towards children, I think that any adult would happily munch on any one.

Where can you buy these?!
I have to slightly disagree! I think these babies deserve 5 stars! I love the intense flavor of the banana chocolate blastocrisp and I am currently munching on the Chocolate Chip one and I think it is BURSTING with chocolaty goodness! YUM! I got mine at Kroger. They are the perfect pre-workout fuel.
I would give the Strawberry flavor 10 thumbs up! The other ones are good too! I was lucky enough to find them at my local Grocery Outlet for only .25 each, and I stocked up!
