Kellogg's Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts
The classic Kellogg's Pop-tarts are my weakness and the new whole grain version is no exception. They taste exactly as the regular pop-tarts do with a slight flavor of "whole-grain." However If you are like me that's a plus. There were only two kinds available at my local Wal-mart, Strawberry and Brown Sugar & Cinnamon, so I decided to try the latter as I love cinnamon. This one tasted exactly as its regular version friend but it had fewer calories, less sugar and more fiber.
But as much as I love pop-tarts, let's not kid ourselves that this is a healthy breakfast. The 1st ingredient is whole wheat flour, but the 2nd ingredient is enriched flour, and the usual suspects are included, such as high fructose corn syrup.
Each Kellogg's Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts has 200 calories, 7 grams of total fat which includes 2 grams of saturated fat (11% and 10% of the RDA), 3 grams of protein and 34 grams of carbohydrates which includes 14 grams of sugar and 5 grams of fiber (20% of the RDA).
Regular Kellogg's Pop-Tarts Brown Sugar Cinnamon toaster pastries have 210 calories, 12/13% of the RDA for total and saturated fat, 13 grams of sugar and less than 1 gram of fiber.
A pop tart is probably not the food you want to look at when you need a fiber-infused meal, but if you are a pop-tart-o-holic, then at least you can save 10 calories and get a little bit better nutrition with the Whole Grain version.
