Kashi TLC Honey Almond Flax Granola Bars

Kashi TLC Honey Almond Flax Granola BarsSince other reviewers have had so much success with Kashi products, I decided to try the Kashi TLC Honey Almond Flax Granola Bars, especially after reading previous reviews of the Cherry Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter flavors. Unfortunately I was not as impressed with the taste of the Honey Almond Flax bars as I was with the other flavors. I had heard great things but I found them dry and tasteless. Perhaps I should blame my sweet tooth - I guess 5 grams of sugar just does not cut it for my taste buds. Since I paid nearly $5 for a box at my campus convenience store, I continued eating the bar to see if it grew on me. While I definitely did not hate the taste, I just could not detect much of a honey flavor ... or much flavor at all. They were extremely chewy, and I found them almost stale, despite not being past their expiration date.

I was, however, very impressed with the chunks of whole almonds in the bars. The ingredients confirm what you can tell just looking at these bars, which is that they are wholesome, all-natural, and made of quality ingredients. As with all Kashi products, these bars contain their Seven Whole Grains & Sesame Blend and lack the typical nutritional "bad guys" such as partially hydrogenated oils.

Their nutritional facts certainly fit my bar standards, with the bars having only 140 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), 0.5 grams of which are saturated, 7 grams of protein and 19 grams of total carbohydrate which includes 4 grams of fiber (15% of the RDA) and a very low 5 grams of sugar. The higher fat count than some other similar bars is due to the healthy fats in the almonds, so I was not concerned.

If you do not mind a lack of sweetness in your bars, I would suggest giving these bars a try. Many people love them, but for me, despite their stellar nutrition, I just did not find anything outstanding about the taste, and I would choose another bar if I were looking for a better combination of taste and nutrition.

I agree that these bars are a little on the bland side, but if you smear some peanut butter on them there much better.

I prefer their cherry dark chocolate or pumpkin spice flax bars; they're much more palatable on their own then the other Kashi bars to me.

I agree, they taste "stale". I bought a whole box and have to FORCED myself to eat them. I'm not upset by the lack of sugar...I think too many things are oversugared anyway.

I love these, actually, but I don't much like sweet things. I think the Peanut Peanut butter ones are better, though.

To each their own, I guess... I love these bars! I think they're my favorite of the Kashi chewy line-up!

Agreed. I'd take the cherry dark chocolate any day over these! But, it's not really a far fight I guess, with chocolate and all.

Thirding the Cherry Dark Chocolate! Though I enjoy the trail mix one as well, yay for fruit chunks. I love them because they have, as you stated, chunks of nuts.

I love all three kinds. I actually love pretty much all the Kashi products. Furthermore, if you are craving something salty, try the TLC Natural Ranch Crackers, they are simply delish :)
Only 90 calories for 10 crackers! Have 2 grams of fat per serving(3% of daliy intake), 150mg(5%) sodium (a bit high for only 10 crackers). They are quite addicting so beaware! lol
