Cheerios: Fruity Cheerios Cereal

Fruity Cheerios CerealIf you're like me and loved Fruit Loops as a kid, then you'll love Fruity Cheerios! I'll admit that I like mildly sweetened cereals - ones that are more interesting than Wheaties but not as sugar-overloaded as Count Chocula - and this fits the bill perfectly. Fruity Cheerios tastes a lot like Froot Loops, but the ingredients list is much better. I was impressed that the first ingredient is whole grain corn, the 2nd ingredient is sugar followed by whole grain oats. Compare this to Froot Loops, whose 1st ingredient is sugar, followed by a few types of flour and then, shockingly (insert sarcasm here) partially hydrogenated vegetable oil!

Of the many delicious cereals in the Cheerios lineup, these are definitely one of my favorites (so far we'vew reviewed Yogurt Burst Cheerios, Cheerios MultiGrain Cereal, Berry Burst Cheerios and Oat Cluster Cheerios Crunch).

Each ¾ cup serving size of Fruity Cheerios clocks in at 100 calories, with 1 gram of total fat, no saturated fat, 1 gram of protein, and 23 grams of carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of dietary fiber and only 9 grams of sugar.

I came across this cereal, which retailed at $3.99 at my local grocery store, while looking for something my 14-year-old brother would like, but I fell in love with it as well. While it's not quite as healthy as something like Fiber One in terms of protein and fiber, it's one of the better choices for kids. Unfortunately, the "fruity" seems to be in name only because they are nowhere to be found in the ingredients list.

It's interesting that they're taking on Fruit Loops so head on. But, hey, if it's healthier, I'm all for it!

I just had some for breakfast!! :)

Fruit Loops was one of my favorite cereals when I was little, so I'll definitely give these a go!

my kids love these, and I figured they are much better than Fruit Loops!
