Fiber One Strawberry Toaster Pastries

Fiber One Strawberry Toaster PastriesFiber One seemed to be the first major brand to introduce oodles of fiber into foods for the general population. I'm constantly checking out their website for new products and that's when I saw Fiber One Toaster Pastries. There are four different flavors, Strawberry, Blueberry, Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Chocolate Fudge, but the only kind I was able to find at my local Wal-mart was Strawberry, so I took it home for $1.99 - a really good price in my opinion for 6 pastries.

Compared to Kellogg's Pop-tarts (I recently reviewed the Kellogg's Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts) the Fiber One toaster pastries are by far more delicious. I'm not a big fan of strawberry, but this pastry was really good. It was sweet with a delicious frosting on the outside. After a few seconds in the toaster oven it was warm, slightly toasted from the outside and soft on the inside.

One Fiber One Strawberry Toaster Pastry (52 grams) has 190 calories, 4 grams of total, 1 gram of saturated fat (6% and 5% of the recommended daily amount), no trans fat or cholesterol, 4 grams of protein and 36 grams of carbohydrates which includes 5 grams of fiber (20% of the RDA) and 15 grams of sugar.

My only complaint is that with these type of products you get two pastries per pocket, which could confuse people into thinking the label is for one pocket. But I know all you smart label-readers will realize you are only "allowed" to eat one pastry. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for breakfast because I'd much rather have eggs or something less processed but if you're buying toaster pastry type products, then this is the best!

AM I the ONLY one that hates the Fibre One stuff. I bought these "pop tarts" and even after spending time in the toaster, the frosting was hard and the inside a gel like consistency. I have purchased the Whole Grain version of the Strawberry poptart and hope for better results. I want the replacement pop tart to as identical to the original as possible, down to the bursting into flame if you over toast them :)

I've never tried these, frankly because the nutrition label just doesn't impress me as far as fat and calories go. I would rather eat my favorite junk food poptart (hot fudge sundae lol). And I'm still upset serving sizes (for both) are only 1 pastry. I mean really.. who eats just one half of a pouch? They need to either label it correctly for 1 pouch, or wrap them individually.

While I wouldn't make these a regular part of my diet, when a pop tart craving strikes, I'd reach for these.

I love these! Not the *healthiest* breakfast, but good for something on the run. I've had the chocolate ones too, but they're a little too sweet for me.

the partially hydrogenated corn syrup and LOADS of other really unhealthy (even in moderation) ingredients didn't count as a complaint? hmmm

I agree with some of the comments above: if you're going to eat junk food, just eat it and move on. Dressing up a pop-tart with fiber and calling it "health food" just seems goofy to me, as there's really not much difference.

I agree with some of the issues about only being 'allowed' one pastry. I'm a fat/calorie watcher, but I must be conscious of my fiber intake, including as much as possible (over 20g/day according to my GI doc). Trying to eat both Fiber One pop tarts will cause fiber overload for the sensitive stomach...as I accidentally learned.

I LOVE the flavor of these, though. I tend to be picky about my snacks, and I generally notice the difference between generic and brand name foods. Fiber One pop tarts? Perfect.

If it tastes better than a pop tart (which I agree it does, not overkill on the sugary sweetness) why not add a little fiber to the diet? A lot of people these days are lacking in their fiber intake. This seems like the perfect solution - get something positive out of your snack.

I love these. Although they are not the healthiest thing in my pantry... they are the most delicious, quickest and fiber filled treat ive ever had. It is hard to eat just one in a pocket. So eat two and enjoy. After all, the best way to lose weight is to eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a servant for dinner. So...a 380 calorie breakfast isn't so bad.
