Danielle Spicy Carrot Crispy Veggie Chips
I've been on a dried foods kick recently, so I was intrigued when I spotted Danielle Crispy Veggie Chips on the shelf of my local grocery store. These all natural snack chips come in a wide variety of exotic sounding flavors including Tangy Pineapple, Sweet Jackfruit, Honey Banana, Crunchy Pumpkin, Wild Taro, and Spicy Carrot which is the flavor up for review. Although a 2-oz. bag was $3.29 (pretty steep) I decided to give it a shot.
Upon opening the bag, I was struck by the vibrant hue of the carrots and the spicy yet sweet smell. The chips were substantial, and each was packed with a satisfying crunch. For a snack with only four ingredients - fresh carrots, palm oil, chili, and salt - these little veggie wonders are intensely flavorful.
Each 28 gram (1 ounce) serving of Danielle Spicy Carrot Crispy Veggie Chips (half of one bag), provides 130 calories, 7 grams of total fat including 4 grams of saturated fat (20% of the RDA), 5 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.
Although I liked the taste of these carrot chips, the nutritional stats are less than impressive - too much saturated fat. Hain PureSnax Carrot Chips has a less fat - 9 grams total, but 0.5 grams saturated (although they don't taste as good). Some other "natural" chips we have reviewed with less fat includes Eat Smart Baked Sweet Potato Crisps and Food Should Taste Good MultiGrain Tortilla Chips.
