Arnold Bakery Light Wheat Bread
Without any doubt, you can call me a Carboholic. I love it all: pasta, bread, rice, oatmeal ... yum!! But although I have never been a part of the Atkins bandwagon, I am sensible enough to know that enough is enough in terms of these goodies. Therefore, I am always on the lookout for a nice lower calorie, high nutrient sandwich bread. Arnold's Bakery Light Wheat Bread fits that bill to a T. With 80 calories per two slice serving, there's no need to worry about making your sandwich "open faced".
For a "light" bread, the taste did not disappoint. It is dense, nutty, and slightly sweet, paired perfectly with either a nut butter and jam, or lunch meat. My standard turkey sandwich had new flavor, and the added fiber did its job, satisfying me for hours.
Each 2 slice serving also contains 0.5 grams of fat (none saturated), 5 grams of protein, 17 grams of carbohydrates, and a whopping 5 grams of fiber! I was really impressed with the stats on this product, as I aim to get at least 30 grams of fiber per day.
I'll admit, the cost was a little steep for this loaf of bread. I purchased it at my local grocery store for $3.89, a good two dollars over the price of a regular loaf. However, I rationalized the cost in the fact that most loaves of bread are getting pricey these days, and for over a weeks worth of lunches, the splurge was worth it.

My local store also just started carrying a new Arnold's item last week: Sandwich Thins! They are about 4" round, and split in the middle like a bun. The nutritionals are about the same, except the Thins have 100 calories per serving. They come in Whole Wheat and Multigrain. I bought the Multigrain and they are very tasty!
I've found that so many light breads are dry and light, and I need twice as much of it to fill up. But, this sounds like a good one!
I have been using the Arnold sandwich thins for a few weeks. I use the whole wheat and like them a lot. I'll have to give this one a try, too.
I'm looking for a Arnold's sales reprsentative for the Rochester MN area.
I love this bread and the new Sandwich thins. Great tasting, and less calories than a whole-wheat pita. Way to go, Arnold. I'm in love.
