ThinkThin Chocolate Fudge High Protein Bar

ThinkThin Chocolate Fudge High Protein Bar
As more and more health experts tout the importance of a high protein diet for promoting satiety, enhancing energy, and maintaining a lean body, more and more high protein bars appear on grocery store shelves. High protein bars are appealing for several reasons: they're convenient, relatively cost-effective and come already portion controlled. I decided to try ThinkThin Chocolate Fudge High Protein Bar because this flavor sounds absolutely delectable - high protein, chocolate and the word "thin" - who can resist?! ThinkThin bars are also sugar free and gluten-free.

The packaging features a lovely graphic of slow dripping chocolate and when I opened the wrapper, I was greeted by an attractive, thick, generously sized bar appropriately smothered in chocolate. My high hopes for this high protein bar diminished, however, the second I took a bite. The taste was conspicuously un-chocolately. It was actually pretty bland, with serious chalky undertones. It was also lacking any discernible chocolate aroma. It was a total let-down.

In fact, the 60 gram ThinkThin Chocolate Fudge High Protein Bar contains 15 grams of sugar alcohols, which give it the status of a low-carb meal replacement. Each $1.79 bar provides 240 calories, 8 grams of fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat (13% of the RDA), 150 milligrams of sodium, and 27 grams of carbs, including the 15 grams of sugar alcohols, no sugar, and only 1 gram of fiber.

I really wanted to like this bar, as it looks both yummy and satisfying. None of that matters though, if the bar not only doesn't taste especially good, but may also cause "a laxative effect in certain individuals" as the label warns - due to the sugar alcohols - 15 grams is enough to send people to the bathroom. I wouldn't label the taste of this bar as flat-out bad, but rather unmemorable. I would try another flavor and pass on this one - although we also reviewed ThinkThin Chunky Peanut Butter Bar and found it similarly unremarkable. I'd personally rather spend 240 calories on something I'm going to remember fondly.

I agree. For 240 cals it better be good. And it's not far to call something "chocolate fudge" and then not be very chocolately. Hmpf.

I agree too... it's the worst tasting nutrition bar I've had. Cardboard isn't very appetizing.

A really tasty bar is the new Kardea Wellness bar. 7g protein, 7g fiber, lower glycemic sweetening approach (agave, brown rice syrup, fiber from oats, psyllium and acacia). Two are vegan, all 4 are vegetarian, designed to enable a heart health, cholesterol managing lifestyle. Glad to send you a taste sample--email at rleighton@kardeanutrion.com.
