Starbucks Portobello Mushroom Piadini

Starbucks debuted it's new star-shaped breakfast Piadini today. There are 2 varieties, the sausage, egg and cheese and the Portobella Mushroom Piadini, which is the one that I tried. The pre-prepared star shaped Piadini crust is filled with chunks of roasted portobella mushrooms, chopped spinach, a blend of feta and ricotta cheeses, and eggs. Although the star shape was unique and attractive, the black mushrooms peeking out suggested that this might not be something I would enjoy. When I bit into the sandwich, I really couldn't distinguish between the textures of the mushrooms and spinach, but it was ... okay. It wasn't messy or goopy since it was flat and nothing oozed out. The cheese was evident, both in taste and in the odor of the feta, but it still seemed to need more flavor - something that would contrast and stand out.
Overall I would say that I wouldn't ever find myself feenin' for this, but it was okay ... when it was hot. Once it cooled down, it was spongy and I couldn't eat it anymore.
A Piadini costs $3.25 and each one has 370 calories, 18 grams of total fat which is 27% of the daily value, 45% of the DV for saturated fat (9 grams), no trans fat, 50% of the RDA for cholesterol (150 mg), 650 mg sodium (28% of the RDA), 14 grams of protein and 39 grams of carbohydrates which includes only 2 grams of fiber and 4 grams of sugar.
There is way too much saturated fat and cholesterol in this for a breakfast sandwich. A Dunkin Donuts Egg White Flatbread Sandwich has 280-290 calories, less than half the saturated fat and more protein (read our review). If you must eat one of these sandwhiches, I would go with Dunkin D.

Darn. It looked darn good.
Yuck!!! I tried the mushroom piadini today for the first time - tasted like mushroom flavored sponge wrapped in cardboard. Not good. :(
If you ask me....this breakfast sandwich is delicious; because when you bite into the piadini you taste every single ingredient that this sandwich has. I highly recommend it.
I am a big fan of the mushroon piadini. First thing, it is delicious, it tastes like fresh pizza/bread. When I have it for breakfast I have a lot of energy to workout in the morning, and t lunch time I am still not starving. That feels great... ok a bit of fat but if you have it for breakfast and you have an active lifestyle its not a big deal. not to mention it also has a lot of protein!
I wish starbucks sold frozen piadini. I would love to have some in my freezer
One of the worst breakfasts I've ever had.
It doesn't have much taste. The consistency -- even warm -- is spongy. The amount of fat is ridiculous for what it is.
Boo, Starbucks. You can do better.
say WHA? i'm shocked by the amount of negative comments for this delicious breakfast. i think you'd LOVE it as long as you like all of the ingredients individually, the flavor combination is bangin'. i think if it's spongy you had a bad cook. mine was crispy on the outside, perfectly moist on the inside. i can't rave enough!
