Cheerios: Oat Cluster Cheerios Crunch

Oat Cluster Cheerios CrunchIt is a rare trip to the grocery store when I am able to resist the siren call of the cereal aisle. Seriously, I dare you to find me a better food product than cereal - its portable, versatile, yummy and there are so many options. Since I like to keep it healthy, it can be a challenge to find something both fun and good for me. No longer - today my prayers were answered by Oat Cluster Cheerios Crunch! Its snazzy bright blue box drew me in, but it's the tasty contents is what will keep me coming back for more.

When I brought these home, I was pretty excited about my find, and thus decided to incorporate cereal into my dinner plans for the evening. Who says eggs and cereal can't qualify as dinner?! Upon pouring the cereal into the bowl it looks like regular cheerios coupled with small bunches of oat clusters. There are definitely more cheerios than clusters but that's not really a problem for me since I don't like my cereal to be super sweet. The box claims a serving size is 3/4 cup which is a mighty paltry serving so I doubled it up, added some milk and prepared to taste my find. It turned out to be a perfect blend of sweet, crunchy and wholesome, plus it didn't get super soggy in milk - though to be fair I ate it fairly quickly! The milk became sweet and nutty and provided the perfect finish to this bowl of cereal.

One box of Oat Cluster Cheerios Crunch cost $4.99 at my local grocery store, but I live in NYC so that's actually not too bad as far as cereal goes here. Each 3/4 cup serving contains 100 calories, 1 gram of total fat, no saturates fat, 2 grams of protein, and 22 grams of carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber and 8 grams of sugar. Not too bad as far as cereals go.

In an ideal World there would be more fiber and perhaps a little less sugar, but all in all this satisfied my health criteria. This cereal contains wheat and almonds, so it's not an appropriate choice for those with those food allergies. I will definitely be adding this to my cereal rotation. It tastes good, fits my healthy lifestyle and would probably work well as a base for snack mixes or in yogurt. They always say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I gotta hand it to Cheerios, they really hit the mark on this one.

There's nothing wrong with eating ceral for dinner in my book. :)

Great review -- thanks for hipping me to a new cereal!

I agree. No food is confined to any certain meal. I've had a veggie dog for breakfast before. Cereal for lunch or dinner was very common in my family growing up, since we were all so picky. It was the easiest choice...4 or 5 different cereals in the cupboard, so everyone could pick what they wanted and eat up! Great review!
