Naked Juice Peach Mangosteen Bliss

Naked Peach Mangosteen BlissNaked Juice recently introduced their Bare Breeze line, which offers "a refreshing super-premium, 100 percent juice with no added sugar or preservatives." They debuted 2 flavors, Watermelon Chill and Peach Mangosteen Bliss, which is the flavor that I decided upon because the bottle boasts "All Natural 100% Juice" and "A pound of fruit in every bottle." It also details that it contains ¾ peach, ½ mangosteen, 2 ¾ apples, "lots of yummy white grapes", and a hint of lemon.

The most prominent fruit influence that I tasted was the peach, which gives it a sweet, summery flavor, while the underlying mangosteen makes it more tropical. The overall flavor is both refreshing and energizing without being too overpowering. In case you're not familiar with mangosteen, Wikipedia mentions that it is typically advertised and marketed as part of an emerging category of "superfruits" because of it's potential antioxidant strength, but it's nowhere near that of acai (read our review of Brazil Gourmet Acai Nectar).

This Naked Juice Peach Mangosteen Bliss is only available in the 15.2 oz bottle, which contains 2 servings. Each serving has 130 calories, 1 gram of protein and 31 grams of total carbohydrates which includes no fiber and 26 grams of sugar - no added sugar. There is also 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C, 25% of your B12, 8% of your potassium.

Although Naked Juice bills itself as telling the truth and nothing but the truth, I have found that they are also suffering from the dreaded and deadly marketing disease of "creative labeling." A major sign of having this disease is calling a product one thing, like "Peach and Mangosteen" but in actuality, the ingredients list reveals that it has more of other types of fruit juices - usually apple and white grape juice. In the case of Naked Juice, the ingredients list reads, apple juice, peach puree, white grape juice from concentrate, mangosteen puree, lemon juice, etc. ... there is more apple than peach juice, and more apple and grape juice than mangosteen.

At $3.25 a bottle, this beverage is quite pricey, so I am disappointed that although they do try to rise above the fray with their "Nothing to Hide" slogan, they still do the same thing a lot of other "juices" do and that's use more of the cheaper apple juice ... and then it costs more! Hopefully, there are other flavors where this is not the case.

If you are on a diet, then all this sugar is no good - sorry but fruit juice is one of those things that you should drink infrequently. But if you want real juice, and not a "fruit flavored drink" then Naked Juice is certainly one of the better brands, but I would still opt for a flavor where it really is 100% of the juices that's mentioned on the packaging.

It's so annoying when juices do that. Thanks for the heads up.

And I'd never heard of mangosteen! Sounds like good stuff.

At least there aren't sugars added to it! Luckily (for the company AND us) those unique fruits have strong, deliciously different flavors, so you aren't stuck with apple-tasting juice for the big bucks :)
