Kay's Naturals Better Balance Protein Cereal: French Vanilla and Honey Almond
I tried the Honey Almond first, and ate it plain, dry, right out of the bag. It looks like miniature Cheerios, but the texture is different. It's crunchier, almost fake-feeling at first, but was easy to adjust to. I was expecting a burst of honey flavor, but instead was met with a very lightly sweet hint that satisfied my sweet tooth, yet was not overbearing. As with the texture I had to adjust to the taste, but ended up liking it. There is also a soy taste to it, so if you are not a fan of soy you may want to steer clear. The French Vanilla was not much different than the Honey Almond, honestly, in terms of texture and the light taste, but I definitely preferred the flavor of the Honey Almond. I did not try either with milk or yogurt, but I can see no reason why they wouldn't go great with either one, especially as they are incredibly crunchy. If you've tried it, let us know what it was like. Each 1 ounce serving (about 3/4 cup) of Kay's Naturals Better Balance Protein Cereal contains 100 calories, with 1.5 grams of fat, no saturated or trans fats, 3 grams of fiber (12% RDA), and 9 grams of soy protein (15% RDA). There is also 140 mg sodium, if that is also something you happen to watch. For those of you with Celiac disease, it happens to be gluten-free as well. The ingredients are all natural, and there is nothing listed that I cannot pronounce (though I am not a fan of Canola oil, which is one of the ingredients). As for the price, I compared several sites online, which listed the single serving bags anywhere between $0.79 and close to $2. As I mentioned, I purchased them on Netrition.com for $0.89. I would probably buy the Honey Almond again, maybe try out the Apple Cinnamon flavor as well. I rather enjoyed it overall, especially as a quick low calorie, portable snack.
