Barbara's Bakery Peanut Butter Puffins Cereal
Barbara's Bakery's Peanut Butter Puffins Cereal is all-natural and low in fat as well as wheat free. Having heard a lot of good things about , I knew I had to try it. I consider myself somewhat of a peanut butter connoisseur, so I tend to be picky when it comes to foods that are peanut butter flavored. In this case, I was extremely pleased with the taste which their website describes as "crunchy, lightly sweetened corn pillows made with real peanut butter." I would describe the taste as a less sweet version of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch, or similar to the peanut butter balls in Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs Cereal. This makes it quite delicious for snacking without milk as well, although I prefer them in milk and love that they stay crunchy and delicious.
One serving of Peanut Butter Puffins (¾ cup) contains a reasonable 110 calories, 2 grams of total fat and 0.5 grams of saturated fat (both of which are 2% of the RDA), no trans fat or cholesterol, 230 mg of sodium (10% of the RDA), 2 grams of fiber (8% of the RDA), only 6 grams of sugar and 3 grams of protein. The ingredient list is short and sweet, consisting of only Corn Meal, Dehydrated Cane Juice, Natural Peanut Butter (Ground Peanuts, Salt), Oat Flour, Rice Flour, Sea Salt, Vitamin E, and Baking Soda.
I would probably eat this cereal everyday if it weren't so low in fiber as I prefer to fill up on high fiber carbohydrates in the morning. Still, the other stats are very impressive and the cereal is perfectly sweet despite being low in sugar. Like many all-natural cereals, it does not contain extra added vitamins and minerals.
I purchased this cereal for about $4 at my grocery store, and it was so worth it. The all-natural ingredients cause it to cost more than others, but it's not too steep a price to pay and I would highly recommend this cereal to my fellow peanut butter lovers as a breakfast or a healthy snack on the run. It is a great way to satisfy those peanut butter cravings without downing an entire jar of your favorite salty and sweet treat.

I love anything with PB. :)
I love this cereal, however, I prefer the cinnamon version. It has better nutritional stats and tastes delicious with coffee :)
$4 is way too expensive for cereal. Trader Joe's has a wide variety of selection from Nature's Path, with ingredients and nutritional values equally as good, if not better~ :)
I'll have to try that cinnamon version, especially if it has better stats. I agree 4 bucks is a lot for cereal, but I expect to pay that, unfortunately, in NY where I live.
OMG, I freaking love Puffins. I've been waiting for you to review them. The cinnamon is my favorite. They are kinda expensive though.
This is such amazing cereal. Due to the low fiber content, I eat it as a snack with dried fruit and nuts, as opposed to the basis of a meal.
They've been on sale at my grocery store 2 boxes for $5! I got both cinnamon and peanut butter.
The cinnamon version has way more fiber and uses that as a selling point on the front of the box. FYI: It's much cheaper at Trader Joe's. I think I paid $2.99 or something regular price.
BEST CEREAL EVER. The end.
(PS, the other Puffins flavors are wonderful as well. I especially love cinnamon too. Puffins are such an amazing creation!)
MY DAUGHTER ATE SOME PEANUT BUTTER PUFFINS YESTERDAY AND NOW HAS SALMONELLA LIKE SYMPTOMS, SEVERE CRAMPING AND DIARRHEA, DO THEY USE ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER OR DO THEY BUY FROM THE SAME COMPANY LIKE MOST OTHER PRODUCERS ?
@ Dori: All products made by Barbara's Bakery, including items and brands in the iconic Puffins franchise, are not affected by the recent recall related to peanut butter. Barbara's Bakery does not purchase any peanut butter, peanuts or peanut products from the identified contaminated source, the Peanut Corporation of America. Source
god i hope so.
ive been eating them all day...i didnt even think they might be in that salmonella group....
ill let y'all know.
hopeful in ny
I ate some last night and about 3 hrs later..KABOOM! I am not trying to bring about any bad publicity but as it stands no matter where it's from, I am putting peanutbutter on hold.
I've been eating Brand: Skippy Natural Peanut butter, every day for months now and have not had any stomache issues. Have also been eating peanut butter PUFFINS and am fine. Just thought I'd give some good news.
I agree, PB Puffins are the best! I usually save them for a snack/dessert though, since I need something substantial like old-fashioned oatmeal with lots of blueberries for breakfast. I've found them cheaply at Target & Trader Joe's. I like the cinnamon ones too, but they can be a little dry.
