Amy's Organic Refried Black Beans

Amys Organic Refried Black BeansYet again, Amy's has put out an astounding product (the only faux-pas I have encountered with this company was Amy's Non-Dairy Vegetable Pot Pie). After deciding that I was in the mood for nachos, I knew that I wanted some refried beans to go along with it. However, instead of my stand-by ($0.89 fat free store brand), I opted to venture out and try Amy's Organic Refried Black Beans.

The minute you pop off the top of the can, you know these are not your average refried beans. They are a rich black/ brown color (not a pasty beige). I couldn't resist, so I sampled a little spoonful of the bean mixture and wow! The flavor is like no refried beans I have ever tasted before. Unlike the traditional refried beans (many made with lard), Amy's blends wholesome onions, bell peppers and tomatoes with organic black beans, a variety of spices and a touch of high quality oil that adds an extra element to the taste and texture of the beans. Furthermore, with the nachos, the flavor of the delicious bean mixture stood out beneath the cheese, lettuce, salsa and sour cream toppings.

While these luscious beans may not be fat free, they are pretty close and additionally are vegan and organic. Half a cup (about a third of the can) contains 140 calories, 3 grams of fat (5% of the RDA), no saturated fat, 440 mg of sodium (18% of the RDA), 6 grams of fiber (22% of the RDA), 1 grams of sugar and 7 grams of protein. Furthermore, because of the wholesome organic ingredients that go into the mixture, there is a bonus 10% of the RDA for Iron.

I found this on sale for $1.79 (originally $2.19) and I will without a doubt be choosing Amy's Organic Refried Black Beans over any other variety in the future. In my opinion, the elevated price is more than worth the taste and health differences. If the sodium count seems a bit high, try to find the low sodium variety that Amy's produces because I am sure that the flavors shine just as bright.

I love that other veggies are included in them. Makes the nutritionals even better than just black beans alone!

I love this product. It was my transition into Amy's products. The veggies are a nice changeup from traditional canned refried beans.

Ohhhh -- sounds so yummy. I absolutely love black beans and these sound totally awesome.
