Sesmark Original Sesame Thins

Sesmark Original Sesame ThinsMost "Sesmark" products include sesame (hence the name), and since I've always been enamored with various nuts and seeds - peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, and yes, sesame seeds, when I saw a pack of Sesmark's Original Sesame Thins on a display, I decided to give these thin wafers a whirl.

Sesmark crackers are baked, all natural, and free of trans fats, hydrogenated oils, cholesterol, and preservatives. The tightly wrapped packaging on these is definitely necessary because even through most of my wafers were in tact, quite a few were cracked in half - I can't imagine how these would fair in a box. I topped a few with a little Tahini - it seemed like the natural accompaniment - and took a bite. The wafer didn't crumble after being bitten into, which was a pleasant surprise. The flavor is a wonderful blend of nutty roasted sesame with just a touch of salt, but there was also a hint of a burnt taste - several seeds where almost blackened, lending an unwelcome though tolerable bitterness.

One tray of Sesmark Original Sesame Thins (about 56 crackers) cost me a mere $0.60, which is quite cheap for a munchie. One serving of 8 wafers provides 140 calories, 5 grams of fat, 1 gram saturated fat (8% and 5% of the recommended daily value respectively), 14% of the RDA for sodium (330 mg), 4 grams of protein and 18 grams of total carbohydrates which includes no sugar and 1 gram of fiber (5% of the RDA).

The sodium is something to watch, but the protein is a nice bonus. The ingredients are simply unbleached wheat flour (whole wheat would have been nice), sesame seeds, soybean oil, bulgar wheat, salt, yeast and natural annatto (for color). If it weren't for the burnt flavor, these would score a 5 in taste, but even so, I'll certainly buy them again.

I live in Baton Rouge La. 70816
where can I purchase Sesmark Savory Thins

Try a grocery store.

You can find them at Whole Foods or at super Target. Their website says Winn Dixie and Fresh Market carry them also
