Kellogg's Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites
This cereal looks like shredded wheat cereal and tastes great. It is slightly sweet with a strong hint of strawberry flavor and the characteristic shredded wheat taste. I did find that it would get soggy reasonably quickly, and a mouth full of soggy shredded wheat/ oat bites cereal is not really pleasant. We have reviewed quite a few of these types of cereals, like Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats, Post Honey Nut Shredded Wheat and Kashi Organic Promise Autumn Wheat Cereal. Kellogg's Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites stacks up well against the rest (I would buy it over Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats). One serving (55 grams or about 30 oat bites) has 200 calories, 2.5 grams of total fat and 0.5 grams of saturated fat(4% and 3% of the daily value), 5% of the RDA for sodium (130 mg), 10% of the RDA for potassium (360 mg), 6 grams of protein and 43 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes 7 grams of sugars and 6 grams of fiber (24% of the RDA). There is also 100% of the RDA for vitamin E and 25% of many other vitamins and minerals. The ingredients list for Kellogg's Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites include whole grain oats and whole grain wheat as the first 2 ingredients, but the list is long with at least 20 ingredients including high fructose corn syrup, sugar and sucralose (Splenda). One 17.5 ounce box cost $3.99 at the time of purchase - and there is a form for a mail in rebate if you send in the receipt + UPC proof of purchase - so I guess that makes this box free - eventually. I liked the taste, the fact that these are made from whole grain oats and has a generous amount of fiber, but I can't say this is one of my favorite cereals. I much prefer Kashi Organic Promise Autumn Wheat Cereal which only has organic whole wheat, organic evaporated cane juice and natural flavors and also has 7 grams of fiber. (Kashi is also owned by Kellogg's). Comments
