Kellogg's All-Bran Strawberry Medley Cereal

While I was at the grocery store the other day, I was given a sample of Kellogg's All-Bran Strawberry Medley. As I was munching away, the "sample lady" told me that they were promoting women's heart health (though men were free to try it too). I was convinced to buy it after trying it dry, so it must have been pretty tasty. Furthermore, I was (and still am) very intrigued by the textural medley that is found in each bite. After taking it home, I realized that the box does not have any claims about heart health, but does have a whole section on how to improve your digestive system.

Kellogg's All-Bran describes this cereal as "crunchy bran flakes & squares with granola clusters & real strawberries". There is a definite reason why the clusters and berries are listed last. I am just now realizing (as I dissect this cereal for the review) that granola clusters have also been mixed in - and this is my third bowl! The granola clusters are miniscule - think of about 3 pieces of oats grouped together with sugar - so when mixed with milk, they simply disappear beneath their hearty, crunchy bran flake counterparts. I scrounged up some granola clusters, if you want to call them that. Furthermore, the picture on the box is very deceiving. They show 6 whole strawberry slices in one bowl. Well, I don't think I had 6 WHOLE strawberry slices in my entire bag. The berries are basically bits and pieces mixed in and when milk is added the strawberry taste turns out to be a little fainter, but it's still apparent towards the end of the bite.

Each 1 cup serving of Kellogg's All-Bran Strawberry Medley Cereal contains 170 calories, 1.5 grams of fat (2% of the RDA), no saturated fat, 230 mg of sodium (10% of the RDA), 10 grams of fiber (hello, All-Bran with 40% of the RDA), 10 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein. The ingredients include whole grain wheat, wheat bran, sugar (1), berry flavored oat clusters, more sugar (2), rolled oats, strawberry flavored apples (hmm...), corn syrup (3), brown sugar (4), BHT, high fructose corn syrup (5), freeze dried strawberries, sucralose, and a few other additions.

Although the sugar count does not look astronomical on the nutritional panel, it is listed numerous times in the ingredients list. Plus they have Splenda! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the taste and texture of this cereal until I realized I was missing out on the granola clusters and abundance of strawberries. Furthermore, the ingredient list is definitely a turn off to me. I paid $3.99 for a 13.2 ounce box and I am not sure if it is worth it.

I tried this cereal a couple of months ago and was really disappointed. I love strawberries, but the ones in this cereal are nasty!

That's really unfortunate that it has hfcs, regular cs, sugar, and splenda all at the same time. Not to mention BHT!

But I guess they're not the only ones to mislead with the fruit. I have to admit I still think there are blueberries in Kashi GoLean Crunch when there aren't any at all! haha
