Light Hawaiian Punch
With warmer weather and longer nights, memories of summer come drifting through my mind. Days on the beach, picnics in the park ... ahhh, youth. Hawaiian Punch, like sand castles and swing-sets, is something that we usually outgrow and leave in our memories. In the case of Hawaiian Punch, its high-fructose corn syrup and unnatural red dyes are best left in the past, but when I saw the new "Light" version I couldn't resist picking it up and waxing nostalgia one more time.
The flavor is the same classic tal taste that is familiar to anyone who has had the original. Pineapple is the first thing that you taste, along with a myriad of other tropical juices in the background. Nothing beyond the pineapple is too distinct though, but they all meld together in harmony. The Light Hawaiian Punch is a bit less sweet than the regular, but the difference is welcome - it actually tastes more like a natural juice, despite the fact that it's sweetened with Splenda. Thankfully, there is no bitter or metallic taste, which used to accompany many artificially sweetened beverages.
One serving of Light Hawaiian Punch (8 ounces) provides 10 calories, 2 grams of sugar (from the juices), 100 % of your daily vitamin C, and nothing else worth mentioning.
Hawaiian Punch will never be called a healthy drink, but for when those taste buds need a little more flavor than water, this is not a bad way to go. A 1 gallon jug cost me around $2.00, which is reasonable - Hawaiian Punch has always been cheap and that's part of why it's bought in bulk in some households.

Yuck, Hawaiian Punch. In college, we used to make what we called "swish" consisting of Hawaiian Punch and champagne yeast. It was fermented for a week and would reach 15% alcohol for all of our collegiate needs.
I think I would try the light version if I actually wanted to enjoy the taste. Great review!
Thanks for this review. Although I may not try it for fear of another addiction to another horribly unhealthy drink, I did enjoy reading this review. It was very well written and captivated my attention! Thanks for writing!

I had a surgery for acid reflux almost two years ago. I no longer have acid indigestion, but I can not drink carbonated water. Since then, I got to know Hawaiian Punch and it is delicious, has better nutrition, and the Light Hawaiian Punch has few calories and even tastes better than the regular Hawaiian Punch.
i love the powdered sugar free punch in the to go packets. it tastes like the sugary version but with only 5 calories. i have tried the expensive crystal light but the hawaiian punch tastes much better! it comes in blue raspberry, some kind of fruity lemonade, grape, and the traditional red. they sell for one dollar a box (8 count) at walgreens or walgreens.com.
Where can I buy Light Hawaiian Punch in Baton Rouge, LA. I can no longer find it.
