Kashi Mediterranean Pizza

Kashi Mediterranean PizzaKashi has a line of frozen pizzas where the crust is made with their signature blend of whole grains & sesame plus flax seed. In addition, the pizza is "stone-fired to bring out the natural flavors". Having already had success with the Five Cheese Tomato Pizza, I bought Kashi's Mediterranean Pizza and hoped for a similarly good experience.

After heating in the toaster oven for 10 minutes, it came out looking just as gorgeous as it did on the box. There was a colorful array of toppings including spinach, fire-roasted red onions & sweet red peppers, all of which contributed a different flavor to the dish. The crust is crispy on the bottom with a nice chewiness as well. The sauce is sweet and mild and the feta cheese, which I usually do not like, brings a unique element to this pizza, combining with the mozzarella, white cheddar, yellow cheddar and asiago cheeses to create a wonderfully cheesy pizza. This was just as delicious as Kashi's Five Cheese Tomato Pizza and I'm still trying to figure out which one I like better.

One serving is a 1/3 of the pizza, which is just enough to satisfy your pizza craving and create a filling meal when paired with a side of steamed veggies or salad. Each (120 gram) serving provides 290 calories, 9 grams of total fat (14% of the RDA), 4 grams of saturated fat (20% of the RDA), 640 mg of sodium (27% of the RDA), 5 grams of fiber (20% of the RDA), 3 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein. There is also 30% of the RDA for Vitamin A, 10% for Vitamin C, 20% for Calcium and 8% for Iron.

The fat content is lower than most commercial pizza joints, but this is still not exactly low fat. However, the healthy Extra Virgin Olive Oil and all natural, flavorsome cheeses are the acceptable main culprits. The wonderful base that the colorful toppings proudly call home is made of all natural ingredients (like the rest of the pizza) - wheat flour is the first ingredient.

The price ranges from $4 - $6 (I paid closer to $4 with a coupon), depending on the store and the specials that they may offer. Kashi Mediterranean Pizza is an appetizing alternative to the average greasy, high fat (or flavorless, low fat) pizzas on the market.

Quick tip: If you are cooking for one, don't be afraid of this large pizza. Cook it up and freeze two servings, separately wrapped in foil and stored in a plastic bag. The next time you need a quick, tasty dinner or lunch, unwrap your pizza and pop it in a 400 degree oven for 10minutes. Delicious!

I love Kashi products. I just learned that they are owned by Kellog's and use "all-natural", not "organic" ingredients.

And the frozen pizza tip is great! Thank you.

Yes, Kellogg's bought them a few years ago. I think all the good small companies will eventually get snatched up by the bigger ones. Amy's?

yes, you are right! I am afraid of this large pizza but maybe I can refrain from eating the whole pie if I have healthy veggies and fruit ready to pair with ONE SERVING of it. I can't wait to try it.

BIG PIE? Naw I ate it all in one Dinner. That is not what I would call BIG. It is a small if you were to get a carry out Pie. Says on the BOX - One serving is 1/2 the Pizza. I loved it and I will buy it again. I normally buy Amy's Pizza .. which I love the mostest. The Med Pie by Kashi was very tasteful and fresh. Very Yummy

Kashi pizzas are the best when is comes to trying to watch what you eat and not feeling deprived in the process. Add some colorful bell peppers and red onion coated with some olive oil and salt and spread over the top.. super filling!!
