Quaker Morning Minis: Cinnamon Sugar & Oats Cookies

Quaker Morning MinisQuaker previously came out with a Breakfast Cookie which I thought was Diettrash (read the review). Seriously, a cookie - for breakfast? I don't care if has 20% of the RDA for fiber, a cookie should never be considered a breakfast item. In fact, I can get almost 3x the fiber (and less calories) from 1 cup of Fiber One Cereal.

Thankfully, Quaker decided to put another spin on the whole breakfast cookie thing, and came up with Quaker Morning Minis, which are also supposed to be a good source of fiber. These are, according to Quaker, "chewy, bite sized cookies" but actually they look more like little chunks of cookie. I bought a box of the Cinnamon Sugar & Oats variety, which comes with 6 pouches with 5 mini-cookies each.

They were sweet, but the combination of a heavy oats and cinnamony flavor was not what I would describe as delicious. In fact, these can't touch(Uncle Wally's Smart Portion Oatmeal Raisins Cookies in terms of taste.

Each 36 gram pouch of Quaker Morning Minis (Cinnamon Sugar & Oats) provides 130 calories, 6% of the RDA for total fat (4 grams), 8% for saturated fat (1.5 grams), no trans fat, a low 4% of the RDA for sodium (100 mg), 2 grams of protein and 25 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes 7 grams of sugars and 13% of the RDA for fiber.

The ingredients list has whole grain rolled oats and whole wheat flour, but there is also partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils in the list (and high fructose corn syrup). I bought a box (with 6 pouches) for $2.99. Would I buy it again? Let's just say that I bought the box in early February, and it wasn't until early May that I had the last pouch.

Hungry Waif over at Nutritious Junk tried the Peanut Butter & Oats flavor, which she thought was pretty good.

Haha, it's like cookie crisp cereal. Whoever came up with that one is a marketing genius-- of course kids are going to want cookies for breakfast. Should they have them, uhhh, no.

Love these reviews! I'm the community manager of a review site that just launched called Zeer. I found this while I was looking for research for a blog entry. Great posts!
