Kraft Fat Free Sharp Cheddar Singles

Kraft Fat Free Sharp Cheddar SinglesIf there was a taste test between Kraft Fat Free Sharp Cheddar Singles and American Cheese Singles - I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. American cheese isn't so bad, and it's great on sandwiches, but if you were actually expecting that sharp intense taste of cheddar, you would be disappointed. It's actually ironic that they choose to call this "Sharp" cheddar when this doesn't even resemble "Mild." Liz had the same experience with Borden Fat Free Sharp Cheese Singles(read the review). I wonder if there is a brand of 'FatFree Cheddar' out there that actually tastes like the regular stuff.

One slice (21 grams) of Kraft Fat Free Sharp Cheddar Singles provides 30 calories, no fat, 12% of the RDA for sodium and 5 grams of protein. Regular Kraft singles are 60 calories, 5 grams of total fat (7% of the RDA) and 15% of the RDA for saturated fat (3 grams).

The cost of the Fat Free singles was $1.00 more than the regular kind at a cost of $4.22 for a 8 pack. It might be worth is to some, especially if you eat a lot of cheese - and if you like American cheese. I didn't try grilling this - am I the only person that doesn't eat grilled cheese? - so if anyone has any experience in melting this, please let us know in the comments.

I thought it grilled well. Tasted much better on my sandwich warm rather than cold. I was disappointed that this cheese has trans fats while the american fat free flavor doesn't.

I love grilled cheese and these work great, but like you said, I can't taste the difference between American and Cheddar. (Same goes for Borden.) However, I've been looking everywhere for the fat-free Swiss singles, which I know exist, and can't find them anywhere! It's kind of driving me nuts. :p

I've tried the Kraft Swiss - it's just American cheese that's white. It has no Swiss flavor whatsoever. All thee of Kraft's fat-free singles taste like American. Also, the Swiss practically liquifies when heated, making it sog your bread when grilling. Cooper's brand of fat-free Swiss had a mild Swiss flavor, but again, it's mostly American.

There is a slight difference to my taste between Kraft FF Chedar and Borden, with the bow going to Borden. Borden's is always about $1.25 cheaper and at Walmart, it's frequently $2.68 a pack.

Not bad.
