Funky Monkey Carnival Mix Freeze Dried Fruit Snacks

Funky Monkey Fruit SnacksFunky Monkey Fruit Snacks are freeze dried fruit - and nothing but fruit. This means they are gluten free, wheat free and of course, dairy free, with no additives or preservatives. I got a pack of the Carnival Mix which contains freeze-dried banana, pineapple, apple, papaya and raisins.

I poured out a handful and it was so delicious. Freeze dried fruits are not as crispy as the other stuff, so the texture may seem a little different from what you're used to - still crunchy though and the taste of the fruit was obvious, especially the papaya and banana. The true test was giving some to my little cousin who is a bit picky with her food, but she was also a fan. We agreed that out favorite bits where the papaya and pineapple. After that test I decided to liven up some plain yogurt with some and the added texture really made a difference.

One 29 gram (1 ounce) package of Funky Monkey Carnival Mix Fruit Snacks is a serving, and it contains 110 calories, no fat, 1 gram of protein and 26 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 21 grams of sugars, 3 grams of fiber (9% of the RDA) and 34% of the daily value of vitamin C.

Freeze drying is actually one the least destructive processing method to nutrients but it's also more expensive. One bag cost about $2.00 and it's also available online at Amazon.com ($20.40 for 12 packs).

Instead of eating this by itself, I prefer to use it more of an accent, to add to yogurt and even salads. That way I get a few more servings out of it.

Those things are scary good! With the crunch of a breakfast cereal but the concentrated flavor of dried fruit ... I have trouble not eating the whole pack at once. (I haven't tried using them as an accent, but they'd be fabulous in cereal or salad.)

Another good brand of freeze dried fruits (and vegetables) is the "Just Tomatoes" brand. My particular favorite is their Just Strawberries and Bananas which I get from Amazon. Very addictive!
