Boca in a Bun Chick'n & Swiss Sandwich

Boca in a BunThe first thing I noticed when I opened the box of Boca in a Bun Chick'n & Swiss Sandwich was that the sandwich looks exactly like the picture on the box. What you see is what you get, and what you will see is a whole wheat bun, a breaded patty (made from meatless soy) and a slice of swiss cheese - doesn't this actually make it a burger ... since it's on a burger bun?

Well, not sure why Boca wants to call this a sandwich, but we'll roll with it. The directions are are for microwaving and after nuking it for the desired time, I was surprised that the bun was moist but not soggy and the meatless chick'n was delicious - tastes like real chicken to me, and certainly non-vegetarians will enjoy this. It's very similar to the Boca Meatless Spicy Chikn Patty, but without the spicy kick.

Boca in a Bun
However, this should more accurately be described as a starter sandwich. It definitely needs some additions like lettuce, tomato and ketchup (because I put ketchup on everything) to make it a worthwhile and substantial meal. The directions say to microwave it, but I found a hard time getting the timing just right to prevent the cheese from bubbling. It is much better if it's prepared in a toaster oven.

One Chick'n & Swiss Sandwich provides 350 calories, 14 grams of total fat including 4 grams of saturated fat (both are 20% of the RDA), 33% of the RDA for sodium, 20 grams of protein and 44 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 8 grams of sugar and 24% of the RDA for fiber (6 grams).

The high sodium and saturated fat are of concern, so make sure this is part of a healthy diet. A box with 2 sandwiches cost $3.58 but I don't think it's worth it. The cost might be the same if you bought a box of 4 Boca Meatless Spicy Chik'n Patties, a loaf of bread and fat free cheese (read our review of Borden Fat Free Sharp Cheddar Singles), but the fat content would be much lower.

I'd prefer just to make my own like you suggested. But I guess if you were in a huge rush...?
