De Wafelbakkers Buckwheat Berry Pancakes with Flaxseed
DeWafelbakkers Pancakes are made from all natural ingredients, and don't use any preservatives or additives. De Wafelbakker's say that their pancakes "taste like they're made from SCRATCH!" Well, I put that theory to the test.
I tried the Buckwheat Berry Pancakes which have a brown, grainy, 'whole wheat appearance' with a few barely discernible berry specs. Although they are the size of an average frozen pancake, they are definitely thinner than the others. This is important because they got cold fairly quickly (the thin product could not hold heat well so don't even think about doing like 6 at once). But I must say that these pancakes taste good at any temperature.
They can be cooked in a number of ways, but I chose the toaster route. Upon taking my first bite, a pleasing soft and dense mixture delighted my taste buds. I took inspiration from the cover picture and microwaved 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries and strawberries for a minute. Then, I added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and drained off the excess liquid. The dense pancakes soaked up the juices that remained and made for a delightful treat. All in all, one word sums up this great breakfast product: "Yum!"
The whole back panel of the box of De Wafelbakkers Pancakes is dedicated to explaining the main contributors: Whole grain flour, Flaxseed (providing 1000 mg of Omega-3s), Buckwheat, Fructan (a natural dietary fiber) and no artificial colors or preservatives. A serving of 2 pancakes has 140 calories, 4 grams of fat (6% of the RDA), no saturated fat, 210 mg of sodium (9% of the RDA), 4 grams of protein and a respectable 6 grams of fiber (24% of the RDA) and 11 grams of sugar.
A box with 6 cost $2.29 (purchased from Wal-Mart) and were WELL worth it. Some 'diet friendly' pancake syrups I recommend are Polaner Sugar Free Blueberry Topping and Aunt Jemima Butter Lite Syrup.

*gasp* I must find these!
Not bad in terms of fiber. Perhaps I'll check them out!

I'm so glad you reviewed these! I stumbled upon them at my local WalMart when I was looking for Kashi waffles. They don't contain any objectionable ingredients and they taste great. I've had the Sweet Potato flavor. They are really yummy.
I found them at HEB today as well, if you are looking and can not find them. They are worth the hunt!
Great recipe!
My only addition to your excellent recipe using flaxseed is, for myself, I use Rejuv! for my flaxseed meal. It comes easy to measure and has added value of flax hull lignans which are concentrated. Great antioxidant and packed with Omega-3s. Easy to cook with. I order it exclusively from http://www.rejuvnow.com
I use it daily in my smoothies. I've done the research and it is the best and superior to the flaxseed meal you get at a local health food store or enlightened grocers.
Thanks again for the great post.
I wish I could do a new review on these everytime I eat them because a new facet of their yumminess comes out!!!
These are awesome pancakes and something quick & EZ for my kids, but, I am a bit disappointed because my local Wal-marts don't appear to be carrying them any longer. I'm going to pursue this, but, if they don't want to bring them back, I'm not sure where else to get them.
I love these pancakes and my local Walmart has stopped carrying them. I'm so sad.
We love these pancakes. Nutrition and flavor!! Our grocery stores including Walmart and HEB stopped carrying them. Sad in Texas, too.
Went to local super Walmart in Tampa today - alas, they are no longer carrying them. I have bought them for over 2 years, now I am really sad. The Dewafelbakkers website does not have info on where to purchase.
I have not been able to find them lately either! It's horrible!
