Quaker Simple Harvest Honey Roasted Nut Granola Bar

This review was done by Jill. Jill is a web developer by day and a foodie by night who loves to find and create healthy foods. Quaker Simple Harvest Granola BarQuaker Simple Harvest line of products are "made from all natural ingredients that you can recognize." I love the concept and wish more food products would do this, so I decided to support Quaker by trying out the Honey Roasted Nut variety of their Simple Harvest Granola Bars.

This chewy style bar is a fairly typical size for a granola bar, weighing in at 35 grams. The mix of grains provided a very nice texture with a little crunch from the crisp rice plus some softness from the oats, barley and wheat. The various nuts provide a good bite to it as well, and I spied cashews, peanuts and pecans all in the mix. The nuts were fairly chunky so that you could actually distinguish between the various types just by looking at the bar - I can't think of any other bar reviewed that you can actually do this with, so kudos to Quaker.

Quaker Simple Harvest Granola BarUsing brown rice syrup as the primary sweetening agent provides the bar with a nice, light sweetness. Too many bars are overly sweet in an attempt to mimic candy, but this one plays it more straight using the sweeteners (which also include honey and molasses) only to accentuate the grains and nuts. There is also a tiny bit of saltiness to the bar, but not enough to warrant classification as one of those salty/ sweet bars.

One 35 gram Quaker Simple Harvest Honey Roasted Nut Granola Bar provides 160 calories, 7 grams of total fat which is 11% of the recommended daily amount, 1 gram of saturated fat (5% of the RDA), low sodium (115mg sodium which is 5% of the RDA), 3 grams of protein and 23 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber (9% of the RDA) and 7 grams of sugar. The ingredients list can be found at their website and it really has simple and recognizable ingredients.

It is an excellent value at $2.50 for a box of 6. I chowed down on one at the end of my recent marathon and it seemed to provide a good mix of salts, fats, proteins and carbs to fuel me (at least until I got to the food stations provided by the marathon sponsors - 26.2 miles is a long way)!

My mom always used to say, "Don't eat things that you can't pronounce their ingredients". It's good to see this put into a product.

Mom had some good advice there!

These are some of the best tasting natural bars that I've found! I love all three flavors! Good job Mr. Quaker! ;)
