Amys Organic Medium Chili

Amys Organic Medium ChiliAmy's Organic Medium Chili is, "a milder chili, made from organic red beans and tofu, in a flavorful Mexican sauce, for those who want the taste of chili, but not the heat." It is vegan, kosher, gluten-free and contains organic ingredients with no added MSG or preservatives.

This is my first experience of a chili made with tofu instead of meat and I found that while the tofu is not completely noticeable, there was a slight difference which I think other tofu novices like myself might notice. Not a bad difference though, so don't let that fact put you off. The flavor is slightly spicy, but will not cause steam to come out of your ears or anything. Furthermore, if you do not like beans, pass on this one because they seem to take up at least half the dish (red beans is the first ingredient).

One can of Amy's Organic Medium Chili is 2 servings. Each 1 cup serving has 250 calories, 9 grams of fat (14% of the RDA), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% of the RDA), 28% of the RDA for sodium (680 mg), 13g of protein and 30 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 5 grams of sugar and a whopping 29% of the RDA of fiber (7 grams) . Not to mention 15% of the RDA for Vitamin A, 6% for Calcium, 25% for Vitamin C and 20% for Iron.

ChiliOne can of chili will give you 56% of the RDA for sodium which is definitely something to look at if you are on a lower sodium diet. I paid $2.49 and was quite happy with the result. If you are open to new things and a mildly spicy, warm bowl of chili sounds appealing, grab Amy's Organic Medium Chili next time you are at the grocery store (Amy's does have an Organic Medium Chili - Light in Sodium which has half the sodium content, so keep an eye out for that too).

Great review! I love pretty much everything Amy's puts out. The only problem is that it is quite a bit more expensive here in the Midwest than it was in the Twin Cities.

I found this really filling!
