Subway Veggie Patty

Subway Veggie PattySubway has tried to cultivate a reputation as one of the healthier fast food chains, thanks to offering several sandwich options with under 6 grams of fat and yogurt, apples, and raisins as side options instead of oily french fries. If you're looking for a meatless option however, you might think that you're stuck with the Veggie Delight, which is basically a salad on a bun - hardly satisfying. But recently, I visited a Subway that offers a more substantial option: the Veggie Patty Sandwich.

You'll be able to instantly recognize this sandwich because it looks like a rectangular veggie burger, with visible bits of carrot and peppers. The veggie patty sandwich comes as a "melt" meaning that it usually topped with melted cheese. In the interest of calorie counts and your health, I would suggest ordering your sandwich without cheese or mayonnaise and asking for plenty of vegetables instead. The Veggie Patty itself tastes like a Gardenburger - plenty salty with the added texture of vegetables and vegetable protein. They can be a little oily, so you might want to blot off excess moisture with your napkin before digging in.

Each Veggie Patty contains 160 calories, 5 grams of fat (8% of the RDA), 3 grams of fiberv(12% of the RDA) and a whopping 15 grams of protein. Unfortunately, there is also 520 milligrams of sodium, which is 22% your daily allowance. Also remember that these numbers are for the patty alone. Bread alone adds 200-250 calories.

Overall I would order this again if the Veggie Delight simply won’t satisfy me. The patty's impressive protein content makes it great for keeping my hunger at bay, at least for a few hours. The oiliness, however, does leave me a little concern, making me think that the nutritional stats are not entirely accurate. Also, the substantial sodium count makes this an occasional indulgence rather than a regular part of my diet.

I used to buy these all the time about five or so years ago, maybe even a few years earlier. I've seen a few variations, one with the Morningstar Farms/Boca style patty, and another with a old-style GardenBurger style patty (with visible grains and such).

Both were awesome, and after they were pulled, I'd forgotten about them until they started advertising them in the Subways near my college.

I do not know where you got your nutrition information, but according to Subway, (see the last line of) http://subway.com/subwayroot/MenuNutrition/Nutrition/pdf/NutritionValues.pdf it is incorrect. The Veggie Patty has 20 grams of fat and about 270 calories. These numbers make it seem like a far less appealing, and far less healthy, choice in my opinion.

I've been ordering these for years. Subway does not offer the nutrition information on the veggie patty with 6in wheat. So I'm wondering where you came with the nutrition value? I looked on Subway's website and for years they've only had the Veggie Delight listed. If the sodium count is accurate, then I will no longer be ordering my fav. Subway sandwich.

if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can see that there are only 160 calories, 5g fat, 3g fiber, 15g protein in a veggie patty (without bread, cheese, mayo etc). you could then determine the calories etc of the bread of your choice. a deli style roll has 170 cal, 2.5g fat, 3 g fiber.

If only it was vegan! Beware .. the veggie patty has lots and lots of animal products, if you consider cheese and eggs animal products. I wish veggie options at restaurants were, in fact, really vegetarian (strictly).
