Post Grape-Nuts Raisin and Almond Trail Mix Crunch Cereal
This review was done by Emily Wolter. Emily is a senior in high school who loves scouring the supermarket and trying out new foods. "I live in Texas which makes it even more of a challenge to eat healthy because I am constantly surrounded by fried fast food, but I like a challenge." Emily plans to attend college and major in Food Science & Technology or Dietetics. "I am extremely interested in food and its affects on the body."
There are two ways to approach this product, as a trail mix snack or as cereal with milk. I tried them both. As a trail mix snack, it is slightly sweet and extremely crunchy. The raisins provide a nice contrast with their chewiness. I hoped that the almonds would prominently display their smooth, nutty texture, but they were so thin that they just got lost in the shuffle. The small, chunky nuggets seemed to take over. Even thought the box states that there are MORE Raisins & Almonds, I think that there is still not enough. As a cereal, this product tends to sink to the bottom of the bowl. After my first bite, I was slightly turned off. The extra crunchy cereal did not create a nice texture when mixed with milk. However, after a minute or two, the cereal began to absorb the milk and softened to a nice consistency. Each 1/2 cup serving of Post Grape-Nuts Raisin and Almond Trail Mix Crunch Cereal has 180 calories, 2.5 grams of fat (4% of the RDA), no saturated fat, 4 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber (20%) and 10 grams of sugar. The ingredient list is not too long and the first four items listed are Whole Grain Wheat, Malted Barley, Raisins and Sugar. If you check out our list of the Top 10 Breakfast Cereals reviewed, you'll see that even #10 on our list, Kashi Go Lean Crunch, has half the calories of this Post Grape-Nuts cereal (90 calories per cup). I paid $3.00 for this at a local supermarket. As a cereal, it is not my favorite, and the calories are too high. As a trail mix, it is a bit messy because the nuggets are so small. Comments

Edie Livesay said: I was somewhat amused after buying two boxes of your Trail Mix Crunch. You state there are MORE almonds and raisins. What was in there before? I found enough fragmented almonds to make about two slices. Also there are about 2 tablespoons of raisins. The cereal is okay, but would be so much better with more fruit and nuts.
