Western Bagel: The Alternative Bagel
This review was done by Lizabeth Burnett. Liz has a passion for cooking healthy foods which started out of a desire to lose weight. "Not wanting to turn to a cabbage soup and bean sprout diet, I started shopping and cooking more mindfully which helped me lose 50 pounds over the last three years. Aside from cooking, I'm currently studying to become a dental assistant and I work at the local library."
Allow me to say, this bagel is about 30% smaller than a regular bagel. This, of course, accounts for a calorie reduction in the simplest way - smaller portions. Still, the bagels are decently sized, so I'm not complaining - merely pointing it out. I tried the Cinnamon Spice variety and the flavor of this is superb, exactly like a bakery's cinnamon-raisin bagels, sans raisins. It’s mildly sweet, with a pleasant cinnamon kick that's not overwhelming and a slightly chewy texture. One of The Alternative Cinnamon Spice Bagels (57 grams) has a mere 110 calories, no fat, 210 milligrams of sodium (9% of the RDA), 6 grams of protein and 25 grams of total carbohydrates which includes less than 1 gram of sugars and 7 grams of fiber. Compare this to Thomas Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bagel which has 290 calories and 20% of the RDA for sodium - but it is twice the size at 104 grams. A package of 5 of The Alternative Bagels costs about $2.00 which is comparable to other brands. I would definitely buy this again. And don't get all crazy and put gobs of cream cheese on this Check out Laughing Cow Light Cheese or Philadelphia Garden Vegetable Light Cream Cheese. Comments

I got the onion ones and really like them, but the "sweet wheat" have a slightly weird taste to me, and I haven't been able to finish them. I like the smaller size as well, because I don't need to eat anything bigger than my head--especially a bagel!
